Hi from Oz, owner of 1981 GMT 167570/B

Hey all,

I'm the definition of Newbie , so I hope I am posting in the right spot... I got given a watch from my father which was bought by my grandfather in 1981. I have the box, receipt, hole punch guarentee... everything in pretty good condition. I ran into "Steve" on the street as he saw me carrying the box an recommended to jump on this forum. He concentrated on the sticker on the side of the box which says "167570/B". Can anyone provide me any information on this?

Also, I haven't got it insured (as up until now I thought it was a copy), so where should I go to get it valued etc. I am live on the Gold Coast of Australia and work in Brisbane.

Cheers

Hi Stimp

Yes it was me who met you in the street in Brisbane

I don't usually approach people out of the blue on the street, but I saw you in the AD with that vintage box and I thought I might be able to point you in the right direction.

As I said to you, I think it is a great watch.

Your watch is a Rolex GMT 16750 (quick set) as you already know.

Rolex only made that model for a few years. The matt dial is more desirable than the gloss dial which Rolex changed to making for that model and also now supplies as a replacement dial. (i.e. keep your watch original).

Anyway good to see you and I hope you will enjoy the forums.

T5AUS (Phil) or some of the other guys in Brisbane might be able to help you out on where to get a valuation for insurance purposes, as they live in Brisbane.

Hi Stimp,

Welcome to TRF M8,

That GMT is a beauty! I'm originally from Brizzy, well Redcliffe I've done most my Rolex dealing through Landfords in the city T&G Arcade just off the Queen Street Mall, I'm hoping to be up there soonish, My other half doesn't know but I think (wishfully) I'll pick up a Tudor.

Glad you found us and a big for the pics

Enjoy,

Dave.

Great watch Stimp and welcome to this great forum.

Very interesting meeting on the street like that - I can picture the conversation in my head.

Keep that beauty as original as you can (as Steve already said).

Thanks all,

Dave, I lived at Sandgate for a while, so just across the bay ;)... I think I have been in that store, just next door to Westpac near PO Square? If so, that is where I ran into Steve.

Pav, it was quite funny how it worked out, when I retell the story it sounds a bit wierd, but thank you Steve for stopping me, it has been well worth it!

Cheers

Good old Sandage, use to go fishing there years ago with friends around the Shorncliffe area, I see theres is a new bridge going in next to the Haughton highway.

Sounds like you were at Langfords, was a good chance meeting with Steve then

When I eventually get up there to catch up with family, we'll have to grab Phil and have a drink or two.

Chat soon,

Dave.

That's geat to have the whole set.

I don't normally approach people in the street, but I really did it because I thought I could offer some genuine help, that's all.

As I said I had a 16750 and I gave it to my brother. I wore mine for a couple of years and it was fantastic, a great time keeper and a knockout dial and case.
