Anyone offered a Sub at retail who is not a massive spender?

I was curious how many get a call back who are not huge spenders, if anyone. I also wonder if it is more likely to get a call back in less hotspot areas. For example, I probably have no chance where I live (southern california) because there are so so many huge spenders to compete with. Maybe I would have better luck if I lived in a less populated area. Anyway, I am thinking I will have to pay the premium but was just curious if any people who haven't bought a ton got a submariner at retail somewhat recently.

I was offered one just before Christmas and a blue OP 41. I had to turn them both down as I just had bought my parents a new furnace. One AD (sub) I had been in before but never purchased, 2nd AD it was my first time in.
I’m waiting for April/March then I will get my fist AD Rolex!
Good luck in you search, they are out there.

Yes, but I’m in a small market. All I had purchased previously was a Pelagos LHD. Held out for an SD43. Very glad I did. Would snag an LV quickly if offered.

You typically shouldn’t need to be a “massive spender” to get offered a sub. You should be able to get a sub as your second piece. Or even your first piece if you wait long enough or build and/or good relationship with your Sales assoc.

Agree with this. If you buy, say, a DJ, I think you can reasonably expect a sub as a 2nd piece. As a first piece, I think it’s also doable if you’re willing to put in the legwork and be patient, but certainly much harder.

No ones going to come on this thread to say they got a sub by being a big spender.

Would imagine that literally every single sub purchase outside of the forums is purchased in this way.
MSRP with no bribery or weird sycophantic behaviour to the poor sales staff.

Then the standard Rolex forum Instagram guy comes in wearing all his shiny jewellery hoping to carry favour with the sales team, who just are focusing on the weekly sales targets and staying covid free. Just add him to the list, rub hands with glee.

6 month wait, with frequent visits to multiple AD's, no purchase history. Acquired two 114060's one for me one for my brother - both watches from different AD's and both outside of my local City. If you don't want to build a purchase history then you need to spend your time.

Don't get attached to one AD that you feel is "promising", both our watches came from AD's we did not expect them to come from.

I stopped by an AD in Illinois last week were I had not shopped for quite a while. Of course, I got the whole story that there were no stainless sport models to be had. The young salesperson led me over to the mostly bare display cases and tried to sell me a two-tone Wimbledon DJ and proceeded to tell me that if I bought that, he would "get me" a black sub! So, nothing has really changed around here - still a lot of baloney!

A Sub LN? Of course. It may take some time, but you can get an LN with little to no purchase history. LV is much harder to obtain.

Never been offered a Submariner. I guess I don’t spend enough and need to be bundling according to some.

Big spenders are usually past the SS Sub category. If you have spent over 6 figures at one AD, I’m sure you already have a ss sub in your collection why buy another?

Not a big spender by any means but had bought three previous watches (GMT LN, Explorer 1 and bb58) before my sub arrived.

I live in socal, and got a black sub without any former dealings with my AD. My dad has since gotten his root beer, and I ordered a white dial exp 2 last month. They asked for a deposit, I gave it, and I got my sub in about 5 months.

I would say this is dependent on location & timing. Greater chance in smaller markets.

It might happen to non massive spender pre 2016. After 2017 and now during the 2020 covid craziness, the chance is near zero.

Longtime lurker, and now finally ready to buy here, really appreciate this forum and all the info on it. One thing I didn’t realize that it was so difficult to go out and actually spend $10k+ on a watch (well one you would want). Really would love a sub but in Chicago so highly doubt that’s possible with my first purchase...we shall see though.
