First (Pre Owned) Rolex Purchase Experience / Service
Hi All,
Warning, this is long! I recently purchased my first Rolex with the help of some of you on here. It is a blue OP39 114300. I paid $4500 for it from a family friend who never really wore it and I couldn't be happier about it (yes, I realize that was a good deal, which he was aware of). The watch was about 1 month out of the 5 year warranty warranty I acquired it. However, I learned a valuable lesson on this watch where it is not necessarily a good thing that the watch was never worn. What I've found out (and most of you likely know) is that by not running, the oils can coagulate and damage the movement once worn again...which is exactly what happened. It also had "very high amplitude ", which I'd be lying if I said I knew what that meant. So, I found myself one week in with a "brand new watch" that lost 6 mins a day trying to figure out what to do with it. Not to mention, the last thing I wanted to do was spend another ~$1k on service. Very long story short, I called RSC NY to get their opinion and they referred me to other Rolex ADs in NY that could potentially help me. I found a fantastic AD by my house with a certified Rolex technician in house. I just found out that this store called Rolex NYC to explain the situation and the warranty timing and Rolex authorized them to service the watch for half price. That being said, I am very happy to see Rolex graciously help me out and not charge the full price of the service. Now I just have to wait 4 agonizing weeks to get it back haha. Also, for those of you wondering, the family friend had no idea it didn't run and has offered to pay for the full cost (or give me the money back, which I don't want). Hope this helps someone out at some point! Obligatory wrist shot below. |

On the positive side you're getting it back now in tip top working shape, ready for its next tour of duty. Enjoy it, love that dial!

Good looking watch. It’s good to see you were able to get 1/2 off.

I saw a grand total of one of these when they were new in AD's, passed it up, and have regretted ever since - learn from the experience (sounds like you have) and enjoy!
These are definitely a future classic, IMHO. |

Nice watch and great deal!
Same thing with my sub. It was basically unworn by the previous owner and 8 years old when I bought it. Needed a service. |
