2021 BLNR & BLRO on Oyster

Called into my AD for a chat & a catch up - an hour later I’m still there trying on the new 2021 SS BLNR & BLRO on Oyster.

Apols for the poor pics of the BLRO on the tray, but man I got to say this thing is absolutely gorgeous in the flesh.

Unfortunately both these pieces were already spoken for, but I was told, based on current availability, 12 to 18 months for the BLNR & 24 months for the BLRO.

Definitely worth the wait...

If you get chance to see these at your AD, take it, especially for the Pepsi - honestly I wasn’t a massive fan of it on Jubilee but on Oyster it’s a completely different watch.

Cheers

Technically it’s a new model, so I should revisit your AD & ask to go on the ‘new’ list

Thanks for sharing these- I still prefer the thicker lugs on the previous BLNR, but this looks great as well.

Still purple on that BLRO. The blue remains distinctly different on the BLNR.

I know the watch would be much brighter and perhaps too “cartoonish” for some, but I wish Rolex would use the BLNR blue on the BLRO.

So they do likely. Someone here posted an infrared pic. The lay down the red on the blue or the blue on the red creating the purple look. The BLNR would be my pick of the two.

It's a marvel that they are able to get it this spot on. With slight variations, after they fire the ceramic and they complete the finished product, it looks absolutely excellent and most lighting. The first batches were more pastel, but they are better now in my opinion.

That looks awesome. I can’t wait to get one eventually. Hopefully this year.

So to each his own, but here is my thing. So my sub was 3250 new in 1998ish. Since then there have been little to no functional improvements. Heavier more solid links are just that all feel, functionally they are no stronger and add heft. The ceramics, add shine, scratch resistant but more prone to break. At 60 bucks per aluminum insert I can get a new one every year for the cost of the ceramic one.

Now, in my eye they are becoming over engineered and more jewelry-fied (made up word). So that’s fine, but it better be exact and I have seen the older and newer blro and there is still that pastel hint same with the green in the hulk. Now, if the emphasis is based solely on appearance, they have a long way to go to catch up to Grand seiko and they are not on the PP/VC level with regard to finishing. But the prices keep going up and the gray market prices bananas and for what? And more jewelry-fied version of the 5 digit blro that was a fraction of the price. So as the prices go up and up, I get more and more picky and close is not good enough at these price points. Maybe I’m getting cheap in my old age o don’t know. It’s not the affordability aspect, I guess at these price points I can’t see the value as clearly as I once did.

I guess it’s the same reason I went with the seiko turtle (srp773) and not a king turtle. Sure I could pay more but for what? A shiny bezel and a cyclops lense?

The half purple bezel is the only thing I don’t love about this watch. I’m sure they will fix it in the next year or two and down the line the purple variant will be collectible and sought after

I keep seeing this "purple" bezel on this forum. Is this a colour you routinely see in person or only in pictures? From my experience, I have never seen the "purple" since owning the watch, but I do see it in some pictures under certain lighting.

My guess is that it's popping up with harsh camera flash, or some very odd lighting situation that I have not yet experienced in person.

The only time i've recreated it myself is under store lighting with a camera, but it only shows up on the camera.

In normal lighting conditions it is dark blue, but outdoors in direct sunlight it definitely looks purple. This is because the insert is red all the way around on the bottom and then a thin layer of blue is applied on top of the red on one half of the bezel. The direct sunlight brings out the red underneath which when combined with the blue makes it purplish. YMMV as I’m sure each watch is a little different and certainly our eyes are all different.

The purple is the mark1 version of the bezel....

Are the cases on these identical to the cases on the new 41mm subs or are they something in between them and the previous maxi case?

No. The mid case is identical to the 2018 release of the blro. The mid case is extremely similar, practically the same as the 2013 blnr. You cannot tell the difference when taking measurements.

Great looking watches and I currently own both on the Jubilee bracelet. I am going to buy a Oyster bracelet in a few months when they are available and mix and match. The BLRO and the BLNR are great watches and a lot of fun.

I asked the estimated waiting list for 2021 BLRO and my AD just laughed. There are dozens of super VIPs already on it & they buy luxury watches like people buy doughnuts.
