WOS in the UK - do they accept cash?

I have bought 2 watches of them so far and buying another one tomorrow,
It’s 5k and thinking of paying cash. Has anyone paid cash at WOS in the Uk before? (recently, not 10 years ago)

I think most - if not all - businesses are only taking Cards atm due to CV19. Best to call WoS and double check before heading down.

I’ve paid cash for two recent purchases at ad’s, but check before hand.

Paid cash for Daytona 116519 Dec 2019, but that was in the USA, where you have to fill out a lot of homeland security paperwork.

Can't believe the SA is counting by hand. Didn't the AD have money counter?

LOL - I thought that was the buyer paying for it not the SA! No wonder I thought they looked to weak to be such a flexer!
In UK as I am Money Laundering Rules apply - but it seems that shops can refuse payment in cash, perhaps best to talk to WOS first.

Just one link I found:-
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...-pay-cash.html

Saw this too, but would imagine WOS are High value dealer registered as they are biggest Rolex AD in UK?

Not sure why you’d want/need to?

Prancing around London with a Rolex-worth of cash on you could get you in trouble.

Money laundering regs. Max cash payment is normally about 10k.

I think businesses can register to accept higher payments though. Not sure about WOS

I don't think WoS will be take more than £3k cash and that was pre-covid. Not sure if it is card only now.

It's a watch shop, not a laundry.

Lots of credit cards have cashback or hotel/airline points these days, you're better off using one of those for something of value and just pay it off ASAP.

I always pay on credit card now because of the added protection it gives on the transaction etc.

Think they only accept £2K cash now... I say this as I overheard a conversation between a client and sales assistant where the client didn't speak English and was typing everything he wanted to say into Google translate on his phone which then spoke out loud to the assistant who did the same back to whatever language he spoke. The client wanted to pay £40K in cash

Thanks for all the Info guys, I will just take cash and my credit card as a backup. If they refuse no big deal, but it seems to depend on the company you deal with. Legally they can accept up to 10k without any questions asked. My grey market guy told me that he pays cash at a lot of AD’s but only after doing business for a while. All sounds shady as usual. I will post later after my WOS visit :)

Obviously Grey dealers pay in cash as neither of them want any obvious financial links recorded on the systems.

The greys probably buy the watches under some silly pseudo-names like Bart Simpson's prank call names like "Mr I.P.Freely"

Paid cash here in the US for my last purchase - no problem. If the amount is over 10k the AD must fill out a CTR and file it with the Treasury Department. Pretty sure all the ADs take wire transfer too so you could just wire the money to them and not have to worry about it.

Most places get a bit twitchy with anything over 5 grand in cash. When I changed up 5 at Sainsbury’s into dollars they asked where it came from. Obviously I told them it was from human trafficking.

I paid cash for Rolex OP to WOS located in Selfrideges in 2016. They even got out this brand new cash counting machine to make things easier. They said that it was the first time they had seen someone pay cash.

Cash is legal, but nobody wants it today. It’s just a filthy pita.

Wires are safer and faster. If they take credit cards without fees you’re also leaving at least a few hundred on the table with cash back or points.

Many car dealers also now actually charge a fee (higher price) for cash transactions.

Quite a few years ago, WOS Sheffield and Leicester said no to any cash discounts, so I went to my usual AD.

Due to money laudering all AD's in the UK have limits on cash purchases.

here in the US, my AD (a local family owned, long-established jeweler) won't take any dollar amount of cash, every transaction must be via credit card, personal check, or cashier's check

Best to pick up the phone and ask them, no? Would save from all the speculation and still no concrete answer.
