Is the 18k green Tudor Black Bay 58 a poor purchase?

I kind of dig this watch but it's really expensive for a Tudor. Curious if I should pursue it?

Pros:
1. Green
2. 18k gold
3. '58 case

Cons:
1. No metal bracelet
2. Resale is garbage
3. No date

Rolex offers nothing even close to this. There is no green professional model that's solid gold that can actually be obtained these days. Am I making a mistake if I go for it?

There’s actually the “John Mayer” Daytona which is full gold with green dial but that’s apparently really hard to get as is most Rolex sports models. However, the only mistake will be getting a watch that you truly don’t want, especially for what the Tudor will be costing you. I would check it out in the flesh first if you can, see if it speaks to you.

If you like the watch, it's great to own and wear what you like. If your getting it just because you can, maybe not the best idea.

apart from enjoying the watch based on its merits, which im sure has many, it will surely not be a watch many will purchase. That could be a good thing many years to come but it may mean nothing...who knows. Get it if you love it, otherwise don't.

If it’s the watch that you want as opposed to something else and it’s time for another then Yes, it’s a good purchase.

It’s a personal preference, but for that amount of money, there are dozens and dozens of watches I’d choose over that.

If you really don't like it, don't buy it. Resale value is a poor reason not to buy something.

If you like it go for it. I find it disturbing that there’s so much talk about resale value in watch collecting these days. To be honest, if you’re basing your watch purchase on whether it will hold or increase in value, you aren’t in the place where you should be buying it in the first place. Watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed, not invested in. Can’t fathom the amount of people who are looking at watches as investments.

If you love it, go for it.....but let’s not totally ignore the resale aspect, as we are watch people and we change our minds.

It’s never my first consideration, but I have learned to respect the resale aspect as it gives me options if I get bored down the line.

That being said, I’d pass hard and fast on a gold Tudor.

I see it sitting in the case every day when I walk past. I have no desire to buy it.
Maybe I am just not appreciating something. Sometimes we look for undervalued things and trends that the world has not woken up to yet, I'm not convinced the gold BB58 is one of those things. If it becomes scarce then it will.

It's the first real "luxury watch" from Tudor and if you don't have to think about resale values and you love it, why not? ;)

What do you mean by poor purchase? While I’ve heard some say for the same price there are other pieces they’d rather go for, my view is that this is a very interesting piece that fits in well with Tudor’s motto “born to dare”.

Tudor is clearly trying to move up the ranks as a luxury piece and I think this piece is a step in the right direction.

That being said, I agree with you that the lack of a bracelet is one of the key downsides of this piece, as is the case for the silver version as well.

I think the question is whether it would enjoy significant wrist time.

This is the only issue for me when it comes to considering a gold watch.

If you think you'd wear it regularly, then go for it. It's a unique watch that looks great IMHO.

The fact that they gave the ugly movement a display back to use less gold in the case is not cool as well.

Also clear caseback on such an industrial movement is a tad tacky.

the main problem with this watch is the display back, the movement is painful to look at. you can get a used Lange saxonia in this price range, also full gold and not to mention the gorgeous movement.

A lot of watches like the Hulk were not popular in the beginning. I could see this one being very rare in the future as there will be low volume sale.

Can you point me in the direction of another gold case diver at this price point with a reliable movement with the back up of Tudor after service.. Not possible.

This watch is a killer move. Yes you can compare but it’s apples and pears.
