INCOMING NEW PAM 915 - With a QUESTION

Hello All!!

Thanks for all your advice. I've purchased a PAM 915, 8 day Luminor. It's great - but I have a question:

The second hand on the 915 seems to halt, for fraction of a second, and then get moving. It is subtle. I didn't notice it for a while. Then I thought it was me. But I've been showing it to people, who watch it and see the same movement. I don't have a meter, but the watch seems to be keeping fine time.

Anyone have experience with this? Is it some feature of this movement? Anyone heard of it, if not?

You should be able to video it and slow it down. Then you’ll get a better idea of what the movement is. Or film in slow motion if that option is available.

Hey - so that was really good advice. While maybe the movement is settling in after a day, filming it showed something interesting. All my other watches have a "smooth as glass" second hand. The Luminor 8 day has definitive "tick" of the second hand, moving "digitally" second to second. What I think that brief stop combined with the fat, index covering second hand, tricks the uninitiated eye into thinking it briefly isn't moving.

I filmed it and the movement's dynamics became obvious. I actually think is is moving along like a champ. I may take it to the AD's watchmaker just to make sure....but I think is fine.

No mechanical watch has a smooth seconds hand, other than springdrive. Mechanical watches tick several times per second

I was engaging in too much rhetorical license! You're absolutely right! This is just a bit more pronounced than, say, a speedmaster - perhaps due to the movement or the dial geometry giving the illusion.

In any event, whether the movement settled in after running for a bit - or my eyes got used to it - it is just great.

This is caused by the frequency of the movement. Usually this is 28 800 / mn, on the PAM 915 I think this is 21 600 / mn. The visual feeling is a little bit different ;)
