First ever Rolex incoming turns into two
So I've been into watches for quite some tIke and i've had a speedy pro for about 8 years.
I got back Into watches in a big way recently and was fortunate enough to have a decent chunk of change to put into some purchases. I had a small history with the store and had bought two ladies cartiers in the last few years. Ordered a silver op 36 with a deposit at the same time and was told 4-12 weeks. His blue dial came in 12 weeks and after 25 I was still waiting. In the meantime I bought my wife a Cartier Santos for her birthday, and I told my rep we needed to pop back in to get help connecting the leather strap To the deployment clasp. We finished up that and she brought the strap out, and had one of the other sales reps walking behind with a tray. To my surprise my OP was on the tray. As you can imagine I was pretty excited, so we paid for it and had a link removed. I was ready to leave with my first ever Rolex and she suddenly pulls a rhodium YM out and says it's an exhibition, but she knew I wanted to see one. Realising that I loved it, she changed her tune a bit and said that if I was serious, she could seek approval to allocate it, but it might take a few days. So I left the store pretty excited and hopeful. I got an email the next morning to say it's approved, so I raced back down and bought it. I feel super lucky to get it and I can't believe how stunning it is in person. I'm a big fan of the case shape and it wears really slim on the wrist, which is a big positive for me. So it does go to show that there are some great ADs out there that are looking out for their customers. I'm very happy to join the Rolex owner community. |

I did try posting pics but it didn't seem to work. Apparently I need one more post?
Maybe I need to do it from my laptop and not my phone. |

Now that i've figured it out, here is a picture of my wife's santos. And the OP.
I'm certainly not wealthy and these represent a lot of value for me and I wouldn't be able to spend this kind of cash from my earnings. But I played poker on the side for a few years and cashed in on some non-watch related collectible items I have fallen out of love with over the years. So I wanted to use the funds to buy something that will last me a lifetime, and be something that can be passed along to my kids (currently have an 18 month old). As mentioned, the AD let me order the OP with a small purchase history of a cartier tank quartz and cartier rondo (12 months and 36 months ago). SHe mentioned that she should be able to get me a YM, but that would be 3-6 months. The wait was getting longer and longer, on the OP and i was honestly starting to despair, but I decided to buy the Santos for the wife and also took my mum in, as she wanted to pick up a breitling aviator for my dad's birthday. Not too long after that, the OP arrived and then I was immediately given the opportunity to get the YM. So I've spent a reasonable amount with them and built what feels like a very friendly relationship with my rep. I definitely believe my rep would have done her best to get me the YM without the additional purchases, as she's really nice, but I feel pretty confident that my extra spend is what got me over the line. It's a funny business really buying watches in 2021. I think my dad would really like a sub next, so I suppose I will ask for one in the semi-near future. I suppose that will really be the real test of the strength of my AD relationship, as they are definitely harder to get at retail than a YM. Thanks for listening and sorry for the ramble, I just thought the story might be worth sharing. I have learnt a lot from the AD tales on the forum. |
