Platona dial change

I want to send off my platinum Daytona to change it to the baguette dial, but I don't want it to get stuck in Dallas if the RSC closes down for another covid outbreak. What would you folks do right now?

Platona dial change

You could also send it to RSC in NY or Beverly Hills

I'd love to buy another one with baguettes, but little chance of my AD offering me one after I just bought the standard dial from them. I suppose I could request them to send it to NYC or Beverly Hills, but they've always used Dallas for some reason. Doesn't hurt to ask, though, so good suggestion.

I’ve been waiting 8 months for my baguette version and was told 3 months, so I agree with you there. And they’ve taken my pocketbook for a big ride over the last two years

I did a dial change several months back. The rep I chatted up was hinting that Dallas might be a bit faster than the others so I had mine sent there. Was very smooth and quicker than expected. If you can, try to pinpoint where the desired dial is located so they don’t have to wast time shipping it to wherever you send it.

I'll definitely post pics when I get this done. Makes me nervous in a way, but I know I want that dial uninterrupted by the brown chapter rings. It sucks you have to forfeit the dial you already paid for, but it's first world problems. I just want my grail Rolex to be exactly how I want it. This watch is already just so much more than I ever thought I could obtain. Hard work in my career coupled with being humble and honest with my AD really paid off. I mentioned two years ago how someday I'd love to have a platinum Daytona, way before the hype, thinking I'd never get the opportunity. They remembered and really came through for me when they received one, proving that some ADs out there are legit and want to help folks even without huge wealth. They knew I would wear it and not flip it.

Good for you and congrats again on obtaining your grail.

There is one individual on here who was convincing enough to get Rolex to let him keep his dial. If memory services me, he went to meteorite on a platinum DD40. I tried when I swapped dials on my Everose DD40 and it was a hard no.

Yeah, new hands and new dial. AD says there's no way I can get my old dial back, which sucks, but Rolex calls the shots.

I honestly would just wait and get the baguette version then sell your other platinum.

For a watch this special and one I believe that will worth a lot more than it is now, it is worth keeping it original. Just my .02 BTC

I would keep this one original from factory and add the Daytona Baguette to the collection.

I'm interested in learning why having Rolex change the dial would hurt its value, since both dials are options from the factory. The only difference between them is whether they chose to put one set of hands and a dial on versus the other before it left the factory. How is it any different having it done by them when it goes back? Just curious, as the watch is less than 6 months old at this point.

I don’t think it hurts the value at all. But I also don’t think it will be the same value as diamonds out of the getgo.

Also I could be wrong, but the Diamond one cards has a -2 at the end of the serial to denote the dial difference.

Does the warranty card even state whether it's the baguette version or the standard version?

FWIW, I would consider swapping dials (and hands, I suppose), but only if I could keep the original and go back and forth. A change would be cool for a while, but I'm not sure which I'd want if I only got one, so wouldn't want to lose the ability to swap back. That's just me, of course.

U.K. Suppled doesn’t differentiate on the dial type

You won’t be keeping the dial 100% exchange with Geneva

The warranty card does not specify the dial. Just says model number 116506. Again, I'd love to also buy the baguette version in addition to my regular dial version, but it's just not in the cards. I'm really just curious if anyone would care since it's Rolex that would be doing it and giving their blessing.

Personally, I would care. On a higher end piece like that, being 100% original at the time of creation is important.

Hypothetically - let's just say this becomes the next Richard Mille or high-end watch buy, the buyer will ask things like that imo. Not saying I would ever sell, but nice to have that option if I go broke and need some cash

I appreciate the input. Since the card doesn't specify and it's all 100% original Rolex parts and even performed by Rolex, the way I look at it is what's the difference in placing the baguette dial in the watch initially or 6 months later? I love the baguette look and I guess I'll risk it hurting the value down the road, but I can't for the life of me understand why it would ever devalue the watch.

I would not worry. I sent my, at the time, 218238 to RWSC in Dallas in late June of 2020 in the middle of Covid and received it back in three months. Consider that the worst case.

Yeah, it's a dumb name, just the shape of the diamonds as Rolex describes them. Never thought in a million years I'd want diamonds on a watch dial, but the way they pull it off on this watch with the solid ice blue dial is classy without much bling.
