Sold my 2014 GMT II BLNR for a 2021 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Sapphire

Long time since my last post.
In the beginning I was a bit reluctant to let it go but owning 3 steel Rolex, (BLNR/BLRO/Sub LV) made me realize I was wearing my BLNR less and less in a point I asked myself why having 3 quite similar watches in my collection (Ok, the green Sub is not so similar) but still... I'm already very happy with the BLRO and Sub LV.

The thing is: as a Pilot and Anything Space Related lover, I always wanted the iconic Speedmaster Moonwatch but until the 2021 model, it never appealed enough to me. Very large bracelet, no hacking seconds possibility, etc. When Omega released the new 2021 model, I thought this is it.... Far nicer and more retro Bracelet, improved movement, applied logo for the sapphire version...

I even considered adding it to my collection without selling the BLNR but at some point, just increasing the number of watches and not using them in rotation would be a waste. I hope the new owner takes care and enjoy it as much as I did.
I was (still am VERY impressed how quick I sold it ! Of course we all know about the high demand for sports steel Rolex but regardless...)

So here I am, sharing my new acquisition: Brand new and fresh from the oven Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional (Sapphire version) 310.30.42.50.01.002

Pictures are very low quality since it's dark here already and I'm using my phone camera.

My previous trio

Now...

My Navitimer 01 Pan American and my Seamaster 300M

Thanks, I think so too !

If the BLNR was my only GMT, I would obviously not let it go... but given the circumstances... Zero regrets !

I'll just have to get used to the manual winding

Very nice. Good move especially since you weren't wearing as much and you already have a GMT.

How does the Speedmaster wear compared to the BLNR?

Thanks !

It's VERY comfortable ! It's a tiny bit lighter, feels thinner (not sure if it is) maybe because it's 42mm but lug to lug is shorter than my BLRO so it definitely doesn't give you a 42mm "standard" feeling. Bracelet is absolutely fantastic. I also love the clasp release button system that most Omega watches use. I'm really happy with it. Only thing that now I'm realizing that will probably bother me more than I thought is the manual winding. I'm sure I'll forget to do it during the first weeks but no problem at all !

Haha, you’re right you will forget but if you wear it regularly you will get into a routine, I wind mine (1861) every night before I go to bed. You’ll find your own routine after a few mishaps and wondering why time is dragging.

Congratulations on getting a Speedy and welcome to the club.

Such an awesome watch with a great history. Looks great on the black leather strap from omega and the tan vintage straps I’ve seen from 3rd parties. So versatile. Enjoy!

I have to admit.... You hit the nail right on the head

You've probably noticed on my posts that I only use the designation letters. I really don't like the nicknames.

Professionals have no time for this nonsense.

And you’re a proud professional.

Leave the cosplay fun for the airport bars and pied a terre in Amsterdam!!!

Laughed really loud here !
But indeed. It's way too much a "Care Bear" trendy thing for such products. I'm a bit outdated but realized there is a model now nicknamed "Batgirl" ... I would NEVER call my Rolex a "Batgirl"

Great !!! I also really dislike the nicknames hehe
But I only pulled the trigger on this one because I have the BLRO as well ! Between one GMT Master II or the Speedy, I'd keep the GMT even though I love the Speedy history !

Even if you owned 2 or multiples GMTs and realized you barely wear one of them ?

If that's the case, then I think that's a good call.

The new Speedy Pro- watch & bracelet- is great and, should you desire, is a strap monster as well! I have both a sapphire sandwich, which I wear with a deployant clasp & brown leather strap, & a new Hesalite I wear with the bracelet.

Thanks !

I know ! I follow the Moonwatch Hashtag on Instagram and most people wear it on straps of all types but honestly, I'm a bracelet guy ! For me it's a sacrilege to even think of removing this fabulous bracelet to put something else ! But once again, that's me !
