WTS: LIP 830 Chronograph "Paul Newman"
Price: USD 4,000
Description This is the LIP “Paul Newman” 830 Chronograph. LIP may not be a brand that is known to many today but they do have an interesting and storied history as a brand. Originally founded in 1867 in France, LIP, like many others, struggled during the Quartz crisis that handicapped many of their European counterparts. During the quartz crisis, many famous brands like Heuer, Breitling and Ulysse Nardin were actually assemblers, taking parts and movements from third-party makers and putting them together. As with the times, LIP chose the reliable Valjoux 7733 movement for this particular chronograph and a Singer dial and fit it in a 36mm case. Likely one of the more recognizable timepieces from the brand, this variant has gained cult-like status for its resemblance to the Rolex Daytona worn by Paul Newman and hence acquiring the nickname. Condition This Lip Chronograph is in overall good vintage condition. The caseback engravings of the serial and reference are still clear. The case remains in good condition with some light hairlines consistent with its age. The dial is in good condition but has some paint loss near the seconds subdial. Specifications Brand LIP Model Chronograph Reference 830 Case Size 37 Movement Manual Wind Case material Steel Bracelet material Leather Year circa 1970s Condition Good Accessories None. Watch Only.
