Icon20 Tudor GMT vs. Black Bay 58 Blue

Looking at picking up either a Tudor GMT or Black Bay 58 Blue. Does anyone have long-term experience with either or both watches? Also can anyone opine on whether the date wheel issue is still plaguing the GMT in 2021? Current collection includes a two-tone DateJust, a 41mm Black Bay, and a hesalite Speedmaster. Thanks in advance!!

I can’t speak to the GMT, but I think VERY highly of the BB58 blue. It has perfect proportions and is just stunning.

Absolutely agree with this. I recently grabbed a bb58 blue dial. The finishing on this watch at this price point is amazing.

I have both and they're both great but the GMT wears much larger (sits taller) than the 58. Being that you already have a 41mm black bay you already know how the GMT will wear. The 58 will wear very similar to a 5 digit Exp II, Sub, GMT etc. I did have trouble getting the right fit with the 58 bracelet but a member recently turned me onto Unlce Seiko who is now producing a half like (more of a 3/4 link) for the bracelet. It's a perfect fit and looks like an OEM part. It has provided the perfect amount of adjustment for me and I've been wearing that watch on the bracelet more than I ever have.

I bought my BB GMT in late 2018 and wore it often and then had the date issue in early 2020. Sent it to Dallas RSC and it was gone for 6 weeks but has worked fine since it's return.

I'm a big fan of Tudor and I think both have a place in a collection and they both look great on a variety of straps. I like my blue 58 so much I think I'll eventually add a black one as well.

My GMT is away having the date wheel issue fixed for the second time, Its a 2018 watch, had it repaired in 2019 but it appears it missed the fix by a month. 2021 watches wont have the issue.

I'm not a massive fan of the BB58 blue, I like the BB58 black. They wear nice, the GMT is bigger/thicker.

Owned both. 2020 GMT, Q Series, never had a date wheel issue. 2021 BB58 Blue. Both wear quite differently and has its own personalities. Also had some challenges getting the BB58 sized just right but overall loved the dimensions and dial.

I don't own either but I've tried on and seriously considered both. The GMT is definitely on the thick side and large but not terrible. (They do bevel the underside of the sides of the GMT case, unlike the 41mm divers, so that's a plus.) I like the size of the 58 better but I have a 6.7" wrist. Unfortunately, I don't think they've really fixed the date issue with GMT, so I'd be wary.

I've had my GMT for a month so far with no issues. I wear it daily and love it!

I think it's more a question of wrist size & how it wears on you. No bad choice here. If I didn't already have a GMT, the Tudor would be it.

Tudor GMT vs. Black Bay 58 Blue

I have the GMT and the BBN. I’ll add a couple pics below.

I love my GMT. I’ve had it since mid 2019 and wear it a lot. I had the date issue fixed in January this year and it’s been fine since. The watch is comfortable on the wrist and has great presence. It’a also got a beautiful dial and is super easy to read. It even has a bit of a vintage vibe going for it. Perfect for when I don’t want to wear a higher end watch, yet still have something on that makes me smile. Thumbs up from me.

I’ve considered adding the blue 58; might one day.

Here are a couple of recent pics:

That black leather strap on the BBN looks amazing! Do you mind sharing where you got it?

Thanks!

Sure! I love the strap and it works perfectly, in my opinion, with the BBN. It’s the black bridle leather nato from crown & buckle

The BB58 is a ripper. I own a number of larger watches of various makes and I must say it wears exceptionally well. It is refreshing.

I’m not sure “rubbish” should be used for any watch. Especially if you’re into watches. These aren’t meme stocks!

Anyway, both Tudor and Omega make great watches. Actually, it’s interesting that Tudor is even being mentioned in the same sentence as Omega when only a few short years ago, not many were that familiar with Tudor.

Omegas are great if you like the ugly Seamaster and all the "limited" editions. However, my 1863 Moonwatch is a keeper.

I own both, and as stated by others, they wear differently. I find the BB58 to be very comfortable, while the GMT is somewhat top heavy imo.

The GMT had the date issue about 6 months after bought it. Sent it off to RSC in Dallas, and no issues since.

BB58 Blue or Black over the GMT gets my vote. Wears much better I think.

Buy both. The latest GMTs are less likely to suffer the from the date issue but even if it happens, Rolex will make it right for you. I've owned the GMT since July 2019 and had the movement replaced twice. Turnaround was quick, about a week to 10 days. I'm now having some power reserve issues and will be sending it in for the third time but this will not cost me a penny and still loving the watch. It's my daily beater... Bottom line, whatever issues didn't spoil the fun for me...I'd buy it again and I highly recommend it.

I also have both. I bought and sold a few other Tudors over the years. The BB Ceramic, the BB58 925, a lovely Prince Date Chrono blue dial, etc.

The ones I kept in my collection are the BB58 blue and the BB GMT…..

That’s tells me something….

I'm always shocked how many people have to send the Tudor GMT back multiple times yet are still avid supporters of it.

Yep. I had to send it back twice.

And still love it to bits.
