Almost 5 months later, I have a serviced Datejust
I posted about my adventures trying to get this DJ serviced. RSC ultimately rejected it, so I sent it to Rolliworks for a full service. Finally all completed today. It was my grandpa, then my dad, now my watch, so very special. Considering the condition it was in, I'm extremely happy about how things turned out. The case was actually in better condition than I feared, as RSC said I'd need a new case but Rolliworks didn't even find any corrosion. Timekeeping is at COSC spec, full power reserve, and even pressure tested to 10 Bar. Seems capable of being a daily wearer even after 40 years.
The bracelet was in pretty rough condition however. Most of the steel parts had been rusted/corroded away, so Mike at Rolliworks used a donor bracelet for the steel parts and used the gold centers from my original bracelet. Swapped out an endlink that had the gold stripped, 2 extra links to make up for the ones my dad lost so the watch would fit, and also the clasp was replaced as the one that was previously on the watch wasn't correct to the TT bracelet (I'm guessing when my dad serviced it some years ago the clasp was messed up so the watchmaker just replaced it with whatever he had lying around). So here's the end results, before/after pics: |

It looks nicely cleaned up
![]() Some remarks; Finishing of the clasp is below par. Polishing grease remaining behind on the gold bracelet parts ? That is a bit disappointing.

Great job and keeps its provenance too.
I wonder why RSC rejected it for service.?

Essentially they determined the movement (3035) did not belong in what they deemed a 1601 case. Although by all accounts it appears to be a 16013. Couldn't convince them otherwise. |

Rolliworks does seems slammed with work though, they always appear to be very busy when I dropped in or tried to get a hold of someone. |
