16710 Pepsi vs 116710ln
I have owned and worn both but just chose, looking around for opinions as I am deciding to go with only 1(Both are full set and minty, pepsi has no lug holes) of course the ultimate decision is mine, so I’m wondering WWTRFD…..what would TRF do???

16710 easy choice for the bright coloured aluminium bezel, V brushing on lugs, chamfers/bevels, perfect case proportion and you can swap bezels and bracelet. I have had mine since 2016 and it’s a great watch!

I would go for the 116710LN as it is the more "modern" watch with the ceramic bezel and better movement over the previous 16710 which had the 3185 movement. I understand one could still change the bezel on the 116710LN to a different color but the change has to be done by a watchmaker. The LN is more expensive by a big margin. If I were to go for an older GMT, then I would do the GMT Master (no II), which is a more collectible piece. My opinions and mine alone.
But to each his own.

I would definitely choose the 16710. IMO, it has better proportions (especially lug thickness), aluminum bezel, and lighter bracelet/clasp.
However, you can't go wrong either way. Both fantastic watches.

I traded my 16710 against a new 116710LN (which I still own) back in 2007 when the SS version was first released. If I still owned the 16710 and had to make a decision then i would likely let the ceramic version go. Tastes change over time. Good luck with your decision.

I would go 16710. It's a classic and much better fitting than the newer references.

+1 for the 16710. Probably one of the best references from Rolex ever. Most versatile. You can wear it with anything. Really comfortable, and perfect proportions.

I would keep 16710. It is one of the best models Rolex ever made (and your set is mint, which is rare). And it is a great, comfortable fit.

Now's the time to start your GMT collection and get both. I've got 5 GMTs, and they all have a different vibe. The LN is fun because you can throw it on all kinds of straps and it ALWAYS looks cool. The 16710 is such a classic. Impossible to choose just one.

I traded my 16710 for the LN - never regretted it much prefer the more modern feel and the despite not having the colour the ceramic bezel looks great.

The 116710LN is a tank and will not show everyday marks with its ceramic bezel. They wear well.

That being said, even though I prefer 5 digits for daily wear, I'd have a hard time not getting the new one. I hope to get mine 'soon'. The five digit probably wears better and is a bit lower key. The new one is more jewelry-like and better in other ways. Good problem to have!

I went back and forth on this for a while. Had an opportunity to pick up a 126710BLRO (which I prefer to the LN) for about $14K a year and a half ago or so, but ended up choosing the 16710. Financially probably not the best idea, but my heart went to the older model.
I think it comes down to a bit of the "bling" or "hot watch" factor. No doubt the 16710 is a hot watch, but it had a history of not being so, and I appreciate that. The newer model has always just been a hot, appreciating, hard to get watch so it takes away a lot of the charm. The LN doesn't have as much of that, which is nice, but for me, I had a Sub, so it was redundant. |

5 digit forever
I own both and wear each.
On my wrist I love the original. New Pepsi is hardly worth the wrist time. |
