Rolex spotting at Chanel

Took my wife to the Chanel store and sat there looking at people’s watches.

Here’s what I spotted in 1 hour at Chanel’s:

A lady with a RG Daytona chocolate dial
A young lady with BLRO on Jubilee
One young lady and one guy each with BLNR on jubilee x2
One young lady with SubLV on oyster

Guess Chanel and Rolex have the same audience. I was surprised at how young these people were and how much they spend on watches and bags at such a young age…

At the rate things are going those were very wise purchases

Not the bags, of course, but the Rolex hardware.

No kidding. My wife got a black medium classic flap a few years ago, and she finally spotted a beige medium recently. I was like oh yeah you should get it. They rung it up and I was like WTF I better get an extra bottled water out of this. Then she told me she could sell her old one for twice what she payed for it.

Before the pandemic during multiple trips to Paris we used to see pretty much the same thing at the Opera Shoppes. Long lines in fact of young people buying all sorts of high end products like bags and watches. Quite a spectacle there…

You should visit the Hermes stores. Last time I was there I spotted a bunch of Rolexes, including myself. Definitely kept me busy while my wife was shopping for bags.

I thought there’d be more APs and PPs in the Hermes store lol

It would have been interesting to see if there were many PP, AP, ALS? Maybe not as many as less "obvious" on the wrist. Just my humble opinion of Chanel vs Hemes handbags for example.

U should come down to San Francisco and Silicon Valley area. Plethora of subs, gmt, Exp around 20 ish tech junkies with $200k tech jobs. I have handful of friends in that field down in the bay and they wear nice pieces (one has a Panerai, another one with a deepsea and 3rd with a hublot). And they all drive porche or tesla or sports series BMW or Mercedes. All in their late twenties.....

Wait a minute !
You spent an HOUR in Chanel????
I want to bang my head against the wall after 20 minutes when my wife takes me there.
I’m always like “yes buy it, it’s great, let’s get hell outta here now!”

Haha, Chanel has changed, they follow Rolex strategy. Most bags are ‘display only’ and some people just occupy whichever bags are available for sale and so you have to wait until they’ve decided…

Anyway, i had fun spotting watches and having a drink

Chanel has been selling like hot cakes long before Rolex. They generally increase their prices by as much as 30% a year. In 2021, they raised prices on at least 3 different occasions. Time to invest in Chanel? = )

They’ve changed their strategy though. We used to go to Chanel Paris and they had any bag you wanted and my wife could also get any model she wants where we live.
But now it has changed, we were in Paris last month and they had nothing at Chanel Paris!
Also, my wife’s SA where we live suddenly can’t just get what she wants anymore but has to put her on a ‘waitlist’ for certain models. Apparently they recently changed CEO and decided to increase the prices (dramatically) and have less availability to create an artificial ‘scarcity’. In Paris they literally told us “it’s better for you when you exit our store that you don’t see 15 other people walking with the same bag as you…”

Has Hermes and Rolex strategy written all over it.

Did you guys stop in just one Chanel location? My wife and I are leaving for Paris in 4 days and she has her hopes of getting one. She's picked out like 4 others in case the 1 isnt available. According to the web there are like 16 locations in Paris

What is surprising is Ladies wearing mens watches like Daytona, Subs, and GMTs. That's a new trend since 3-5 years ago. Big reason why demand is so high now.

If I knew anything at all about Chanel bags I’d probably be impressed with my wife’s collection. Reading what you guys are saying about their rising value makes me wonder… she probably has the equivalent of a collection of Subs, GMTs and Daytonas.

But, you know, Chanel bags aren’t all about investment value
