First AP incoming- Code 11:59 Chrono Blue Dial

I've been buying mostly pieces on the secondary market, but being a virtual unknown to brands and not really having access to newer models without the crazy premiums, I was looking to change that whether it was through Rolex or AP. Depending on who calls me first.

Last summer, I had visited the AP boutique in Dallas from out of town and was able to handle some Code 11.59 models. When they were first launched, I found them rather uninspired and may have been influenced by the vitriol from the watch collecting community. Checking them out in person though, my opinion quickly turned around with so many details coming across in person that couldn't be translated in photos.

Even still, my intention was to get to a RO eventually and they were forthright in stating it was pretty unlikely to get up one without an established relationship... shitty i thought, but this is the game we play.

A couple times I've been offered the HMS but it didn't do it for me; however, I was enticed by the chrono, but none of the dial configurations they had available at the time really spoke to me. Months pass and recently the SA texts me of a blue dial config that came, and something clicked in me saying this is it. I made the call and said I want it, and here we are.

Initially I set the bar for accepting the Code into the collection pretty low, trying to justify it as a foot in the door to get ROs, but now having it, that was a disservice. This piece is phenomenal in its own right. The criticism of the watch towing the dress/sport line and being neither is a positive in my book. Contemporary style is casual and fluid, and I can see myself wearing these in way more occasions than something like a Lange chronograph. I've been struggling to capture all the visual interests and accurately reflect the dial color in photos. It really is something to be experienced in person.

I know Moser is known for their fume dials, but AP seems to have it better here. The Moser dials I've had get washed out and grainy when hit with direct light, which is not the case with this one. The dial transitions between a midnight blue to a radiant blue with tealish tint. I'm honestly a fan of this model regardless of what motivations (of getting a RO) got me to this point, I'm glad to have it. I don't have the funds to collect from all the brands, but since this is my first big new watch purchase, maybe I'll just be an AP guy!

solid piece bro! wear it in the best of health

did you think about white gold vs. rose gold when you were thinking what you wanted?

have my eyes set on this one in RG when the time is right: https://www.audemarspiguet.com/com/e...A002KB.01.html

Thanks! I knew I wanted white gold from the onset. I think the RG is stunning and am a big fan of the mix of brushed/polish on colored gold, but for my casual style and the occasions where I wanted to wear this piece, I thought RG might draw too much attention itself. The overall design is bold enough for me. I think the black dial variations are really cool, and know people who think it's the best that they make, but haven't seen one in person.

Seriously, looking for examples of my configuration on social media was very challenging, I saw a max of 2 posts on instagram and could hardly find past 2nd hand market posts for non-marketing photos of it.

Nice, congrats. Also nice Les Paul, love the P90 pick ups.

Agree with your Moser comment. They look great on their website, in person it’s a bit disappointing. Something is missing…

Congratulations - the fabric strap is a great pairing for this!

Is this the first AP you've owned? Including grey market purchases etc...

Excellent choice, the Code chronos make quite an impression…and it looks great on you. Extra points for that strap choice.
Wear it in good health.

Great write up. I love to hear watch collector stories and reasons for their acquisitions. Your Code configuration (WG /Blue) and last year’s RG/Ceramic and my most favorite Code Chronos. That is a stunning piece. I also understand your reservations since they are pricey.

Congratulations on your purchase. It looks amazing and an absolute stunner. Thank you for sharing.

Congrats! I absolutely agree that the quality of the code's dial is so much better than moser. In fact, it is much better than all of the other lacquered dial watches out there.

Congratulations! I'm ever so slowly warming to the Code line-up, and your particular configuration is really quite striking. The dial color reminds me of the 5170p which is one of my all-time favorites.

Full disclosure … I collect Rolex watches … but, I love all brands.

I know this is blasphemy to the AP community … but I’m going to say it (probably the first to ever do so !!) …

I would (am likely going to) buy a Code 11.59 over a Royal Oak.

Yours is a beauty. Congratulations.
