116618 or 16618 w/Serti Dial

I just called our dealer and asked for pricing for the 116618 (Gold Submariner) and the 16618 (Old Gold Submariner w/Serti Dial). If I understand correctly, the new Gold Sub does not come in a Serti Dial, is this correct?

I am trying to decide which one to get for my husband. He likes the Serti Dial but what is the difference in the old and the new sub?

Any reason to chose one over the other?

Any recommendations?

PS: Any pictures are appreciated.

I think you will have to see the color difference between the two for yourself, the old 16618 and the new 116618 are two totally different looks. I much prefer the 16618, plus as you mentioned, you can get the serti dial. You should also be able to secure a very nice discount on the 16618 as well. The new 116618 has the maxi dial, hands and larger case.

Thanks Scott - We both prefer the Serti Dial so we are leaning in that direction.

Hi Karis - I'm back! Yes, we are adding to our collection. I really like the Serti and I don't know if I like the blue color of the new sub. Maybe I should take a drive to San Diego this weekend and check it out.

Well, its Smurfy! I have handled the 116618 several times and I do not care for it at all. But as I mentioned, I do believe that you have to handle this watch in person to truly get a feel for it. It's weird, there are so many watches that I do not like in pictures, but in the flesh they are much better. The WG YM II for example, is truly a magnificent watch to handle, but its pictures do not do it justice one bit.
