The keeper on my Seiko 009 bracelet fell apart

I would say it was five years old. Never exposed to extreme conditions. Two little plastic parts on the underside of the keeper just fell off. Has it happened to others? Does the strap just have a limited life?

Looks like heat-related degrading in the elastomer/rubber compound.

When I lived in Miami this happened over time with exposure to sun, ocean, and heat when left in the car.

Wasn’t a Seiko but another brand’s rubber band.

I think a common problem with rubber straps. Not an expert in rubber, but i assume quality of the rubber could be suspected in this issue. May have been one reason Seiko changed to silicon straps and metal keepers.

It would be interesting to know, if anyone with a Seiko silicon strap and metal keeper has experienced problems.

Is that the original strap? I know it's Seiko flat-vent style (I wear my 009 on a similar Geckota strap), but I thought the 009 came on a Z22. Yours look like a DAL1BP, if it is Seiko.

One piece fell off, then another a few minutes later. It is an original Seiko strap. Says Seiko on it, has a tsunami logo, doubt it’s a fake.

I wasn't thinking it was "fake", but maybe one of the versions from Bonetto Cinturini, Uncle Seiko or WatchGecko, etc, which are in fact higher quality and more expensive. Anyway, yours being a real DAL1BP would have that ref on the underside of the strap on the 12 0'clock side. It's a $25 strap which shouldn't really be expected to last more than five years.

They don't last forever. Had a few of those rubber straps before I switched it out for an Uncle Seiko steel bracelet.

I took a look at my SKX173 and it is on the Uncle Seiko strap that you recommended. It is very comfortable. I change straps and bracelets for entertainment value. It’s like getting a new watch, but less expensive.

I'm sorry to see that, what a shame. Agree that those types of straps for any watch brand don't last forever. Many factors and variables come into play, but it's why for me I'm typically all about bracelets.

Hope you're able to get it resolved soon and continue enjoying this piece.

Just a little surprised, no biggie. Just checking on the life expectancy of the rubber band. The watches have been more sturdy.

I remember the is happening to my timex rubber straps as a kid / young adult. Just the nature of the material.

I second uncle seiko rubber straps - I have a few and they are great, and durable.
