Any 'Good Samaritans' here? (Flip Rolex for MSRP)
Anyone ever buy a watch then decide to get rid of it - but instead of selling on the open market, sell it for what you paid?
Back in the "good old days" we were all used to taking a loss. If you paid MSRP at the AD it was considered a bad deal and you were paying for the "free" champagne. Savvy buyers went grey and could expect to save 20%. Those days are over, perhaps they'll never return. Holding something like a Daytona would present a moral quandary - I don't need this thing and could make a good profit. If I just want to break even, how do I know the buyer won't turn around and flip it for profit? How to find a true collector? Seems like the only way this happens is among close friends & family. |

Drowning in tumbleweed here :-p
I did it with an Omega once. Got a huge discount off RRP sold it to a friend, it was his dream watch so sold it to him for what I paid, knowing he couldn’t afford more/ would never get the same deal again. Rolex? Well never sold one and don’t intend to, but if it was a dream watch for a special occasion like a marriage or something, I would probably do the same. |

I would 100% not flip it! I've told all my friends if I ever managed to get 2 at around the same time from 2 different AD's I'd 100% sell it to them at MSRP just to be a good guy! I would hope they would do it for me to. But since no one can even get 1 i don't see this being a problem. :(

I buy with the intention of keeping.
That said, I’ve sold every single watch that didn’t work out for exactly what I’ve paid right here to TRF members. |

I think I've averaged about even. Lost my butt on a few watches and made a bit on some Rolexes. But my intention is always to keep them too. |

I’m sure ‘Dhiren’ from India helped a UK member pick up a Daytona!

Depends on who I'm selling to. I'm not making a profit off of family or close friends but I will take a stranger's money.

I have some internal channels at work where folks will generously offer up their spots on waitlists occasionally. Wouldn't consider doing it for the general public myself.

This is a very hard question to answer in todays climate. If I was offered 3 LV subs it would be very hard not to sell 2 at a major profit and pay myself back and put more money towards my collection.

I think you'll be doing yourself a disservice by flipping it for MSRP even if that is what you paid for it.
Other than a pat on your back and an internal ego boost. It does nothing really lol. Difference between morality and borderline stupidity. The market is the market... up or down. I mean one could try, but you won't equally sell something for more than what's its worth.... |

Some folks have done it. When I created a thread asking for the same thing a while back, there was a lot of “why would someone want to sell you something at MSRP when they can sell it for much more?!”

If you want to be a good samaritan just sell it for the market price and donate the difference to a good charity.

Any 'Good Samaritans' here? (Flip Rolex for MSRP)
Never sold a watch in my life.
But I could only imagine selling to someone who isn’t family or a close friend. You’d be feeling so good about selling to someone at MSRP (he tells you it’s his dream watch and blah blah). You made him so happy he could obtain his grail piece etc.. ……. 5-10 mins later: He offers it back to you for X2 -X3 of the price or flips it to nearby grey dealer. Then he goes to the strip club and sips that gin & tonic while whispering to Leanne the stripper that he had a good day at work. Would you still feel good about it or nah? Don’t forget that even the best clients and biggest spenders and collectors sometimes get tempted to flip the hottest pieces in today’s market… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've actually thought about this a bit and have always wondered what would happen if your AD found out you did this. Maybe there was an issue with the watch and your friend brought it in for service or maybe that friend needs to liquidate and sell. I assume your AD would think you were a flipper even though you didn't make any money.

So I’ve not thought about it from an AD (I don’t play their games), however in the royal blue activity if I would have won. I’d have sold it to a fellow trf’r for MSRP then donated half that to TRF.

I did. In fact, I sold my first to a guy that became his first. Less than a year ago. Yes, I left a few grand on the table, but I see that guy once or twice a month, in passing, and I know I did the right thing (in this case).

If multiple ADs offer me the same watch (or a duplicate of something I already have) I will offer to buy it for friends that I know are looking.

That's kinda how i got the Sky-Dweller. Have also helped others during the early years. Once this bubble pops it'll hopefully get back to normal at some point.

Yep! Sold my 114060 practically new to a buddy in the Airforce who moved a few times and could not build relationship and a few others incomings directly to friends from my AD.
