New v Original Ranger

Tudor released a re-issue of the original circa 1966Tudor Ranger today.





The Ranger dates to 1966. . .but Tudor is tying it to a 70 year anniversary of a British expedition to Greenland? . .. hmmmmm.

I'm partial to the original 7966 of 34mm.





The new one is thicker and 39mm.


Will I buy one? Duh.

I think Tudor hit a home run with this one and it will sell like hot cakes 🎂 for anyone trying to find an Explorer.

To commemorate the Greenland expedition, they should have re-issued one of these like my original:


For the Ranger re-re-issue (they also had the North Flag earlier in their historic collection) they should have stayed true to the lumberjack as pictured in the 1969 catalog:

They’re doing such a great job. They feel like Rolex back in the 80/90s when I first got interested in watches. No flash, just simple tool watches. Do I want one? I’m not sure.

Couldn’t agree more. Still waiting for a BB58 with date complication for my perfect modern Tudor. Closest thing to a modern four digit sub around.

Sure, but I'd guarantee you that the value will come back around on them in the future. This is all cyclical.

I think it looks great. I always found the recently discontinued Heritage Ranger a bit off proportion-wise, and I never warmed to the straight endlinks on the bracelet.

This appears to be much better proportioned, is a better size for me, and is very evocative of the original (which I find appealing). I really like the touch of red on the seconds hand.

Seems like an excellent, affordable alternative to an Explorer 1016 or a vintage Ranger.

Yes in the main riding on the 2003-2019 big watch craze. They've started to become 'out' for the fashionista over last few years but values have broadly stayed level. However I'm sure that when they become like the unwearable kipper tie, flares, stacks of the early 80s values will drop quickly.
I say this as someone who was one of the most prominent Panerai collectors on Paneristi from 2003 to 2015 - I sold them all when I saw the winds changing. I accept if you like big watches then great ignore it all (and of course in 25-30 yrs they'll come back in) but if you like to think your money is safe in your watches, I genuinely think they could take up to a 50% value hit in next 5-8 years as the pre-40mm smaller/svelte watch fashion is coming back in at some pace now!

I like it a lot .. but I prefer the original . I've always wanted an original Ranger and it just hasn't happened for me yet. At the moment finding decent examples come with sky high prices so maybe ill just settle for the new one for the time being. My only complaint is I wish it was 36mm .

Love the chamfers on the modern Tudors. Wish they'd do them on the Rolexes too. Not a chamfer to be seen on my Sub C.

Also interesting is that the chamfer on this one looks to be brushed as opposed to polished, which is kind of cool.
