Icon4 A man and a woman violently attacked for the man's Rolex

Just seen this disturbing story and thought I'd share so everyone can be safe out there. Can't post links, so look it up to see the video. Insane!

Yes, it has.

And curiously, was closed by the mods.

It's real and relevant, no matter how many just want to brush it off...why would LAPD issue a warning notice if it wasn't?

"I go out all the time in LA, nothing's ever happened to me."

"It's a city of 19 million people, stuff happens."

"I have insurance and, besides, I carry protection with me."

All I can say is "famous last words."

And all pretty weak if it's you or your wife that gets pistol whipped (or worse) for a watch...

these threads keep getting closed because someone always brings up a topic that's not allowed to be discussed on here (you know what it is, and if you don't, look at the last 2 posts in the thread you opened)

I saw this yesterday and immediately texted a good friend who collects Rolex and just moved to a large city. I cannot believe these attacks on people. Ridiculous.

You mean the cut off chyron? It's another story but somehow related. An olympic champion got beaten by a homeless man in LA and almost lost her eye

This thread will also get closed. These are just a magnet for pseudo-tough guys or dog whistles.

Any post about a robbery inevitably devolves into a discussion of politics and other subjects prohibited here. That’s why.

as if this brand wasn't unattractive enough with the terrible sales tactics at ADs, false scarcity (safes are full at the back of every AD - you are naive to think otherwise), and absolutely disgusting greed within the grey market 'economy' - on top of all of this, wearing these makes you, and even worse, your family, targets for violent crime

but yeah prices are going to keep going up guys

unattractive for you or people genuinely into watches maybe but clearly the sales tactics worked and made people want them even more

Similar thing happened up here in the Bay Area recently at a parking lot of a Trader Joe's of all places. News said that was a $40k value Rolex. I mean what are we talking about here, maybe DDs and/or Daytonas? Stuff that screams expensive Rolex I guess.

Maybe be a little extra cautious if you have one of those type of watches?

If your daily is an Explorer I or Sub, probably wouldn't worry too much.

Terrible. I hope they had insurance and don't suffer ant long term mental strain from this. Robberies like this are never acceptable but I always look for the vehicle they were driving. Yes, BMWs, like this couple's, are a dime a dozen but they are also flashy and can attract the wrong kind of attention. It's part of the reason why I only stick with Toyota and Honda. Under the radar is an understatement.

Submariners, absolutely, you will get mugged for them. One guy in my city was followed home last year, guy then knocked on his door and put a knife to his throat over a Submariner. Another Submariner on the west coast of Canada was for sale on craigslist, the "buyer" bear sprayed the seller and stole it.

Well, just an Explorer then. If a criminal actually recognizes one, at least he's somewhat a watch guy.

BTW, any idea which model it was? I always figure the $$$ value is what the owner gives to the news and/or police, which suggests secondary market value?
