Transistors!
Purchased these recently. The red one is a Zenith Royal 50 from the early 60s. Made in the USA. The tiny one is a Marvel 6YR-19 also from the early 60s. Made in Japan. I've got the watch bug and now the transistor radio bug A GE is on the way!

I have an old AIWA transistor, single band AM only. Bought in Dubai by a friend in the early '80s, it uses a couple of AA batteries and still works pretty well.

Remember them well listening to Pirate radio Caroline early 60s plus a few others, like Radio Jackie, Kaleidoscope and RLF,those were the days.

Great radios!!!!
I know of people that collect radios and have wall to wall radios. I'm into radios that I can transmit and receive. Here is my latest, its and Icom IC-7000 with a 2.5 inch screen that is razor sharp and also has a built in TV. Once you get into radio's its fun to get into the electronics side of things too and learn about the components and repairing them. Cheers & 73 |

Cool radio, and pretty big for a CB.
Radio's are cool when you get into them as they do provide a measure of social as well as technical pleasure. CB isn't doing much here in Australia, so I got federally licenced and now enjoy the hobby much more. |

The Yaesu FT-101 was a full HAM radio with 80 m, 40 m, 20 m, 15 m, and 10 m plus the mods for the then 11m CB bands. With 130Watt USB LSB), 90Watt (CW) and 40Watt AM-FM,and very easy to mod,to any band you wanted.Agree when I first started there were very very few on CB.Then all the kids came into CB so most of the real CB guy switched to Side band rigs, still illegal. Then they brought the legal FM low powered rigs out with the licence fee.But it never really took off, there is still plenty of skip about, to still bounce your signal around the globe. My call sign is 163 alpha Tango but now its mainly Europe you can find, sometimes USA,but now very rare Aus or New Zealand, from the UK.
