Rolex 1680 red submariner - buy or not by. Need your help!?
Hi guys,
I'm currently evaluating a potential buy of a 1680 red submariner. I would need your help. What do you think of the watch? It comes with the original papers from 1971, box and a lot of the accessories from that time. It has the MK2 dial. Pictures attached - what are your thoughts. A buy or no buy!? Thanks a lot - warm regards Seb |

I’m not a vintage watch expert, but the watch looks it really good condition. If the two particular areas you’ve shown photographed are the worst wear spots I’d say it’s in incredible shape. I imagine what looks like a full set red sub is hard to come by as well.
If you’ve got the ability and you’re interested in a vintage piece, this one looks like a good choice. |

Thanks a lot
Hi there - thanks a lot for your opinion. I have added a few more pictures on the lugs. The watch has been of course polished, but as I'm not a expert on how much polish is okay, I would very much appreciate any experience or opionen in that as well.
Happy Sunday (: |

To me. Whether the watch is unpolished or not, it is not very important as any good watchmaker can laserweld and polish to almost Rolex factory specifications. What is most important for vintage watch is
1) whether all parts are original? Dial and hands untouched? 2) Papers are authentic? Check year and correspond with authorised dealer 3) avoid hand written papers as far as possible, go for punched papers |

Being 50yrs old and look like that, also with original paperwork is hard to find these days. Like all other said, make sure all is authentic and good luck.
You are going to love it! |

OP, if you want a proper evaluation, this needs to be in the vintage section. You might want to ask the mods to move it for you. Then the real experts will weigh in.

You probably also need a pic of the dial without the crown and top writing concealed. And also a picture without the date while concealed. Last, the first two numbers of the serial will help.

If that is genuine, get it! Not getting it would cause you regret down the line.

I am no expert in full set vintage red subs with Mk 2 dial, BUT:
- If it's under 100 bucks, buy it. - If it's over million bucks, don't buy it. |
