Should I expand my collection?

I have an opportunity to pick up a BLNR front my AD. Will probably take about 6 months but my Sales Associate said he can guarantee me this piece at retail.

However I weird have found horological bliss with my current two pieces. I currently have the Sub41 Date and an OP41 in Black. I feel like I have all my bases covered with these two pieces.

Am I crazy for considering passing up the BLNR?

This. Personally, you may find the BLNR to be veyr similar with the sub, but I'd say it is objectively a better watch than the Oyster Perpetual. So your call, OP.

To me the GMT is a more versatile piece, but that's because I do travel a lot and it's a great watch for it. It really depends on your style. For some people the GMT function doesn't matter at all.

I wouldn't. But you do you.

I'm just wondering how your SA can guarantee it given the long time frame? I'm assuming you don't have a large spend history there.

i would take BLNR if you can get at retail, i find GMT and Sub can be compliment to each other well. OP can use as a more dress watch.

Most people don't need more than one watch. High end watches are luxury items, if you love to have it, go for it, if you don't want to waste more money, don't go for it.

Were I in your situation I would add a GMT Master at MSRP to that pair in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented.

You have already answered your own question.

You are asking for people to tell you you are crazy.

Me? I am not interested in any GMT.

Not at all crazy. Stay put if you're happy as is.
I like the addition of some color that the GMT brings.

You would have a more rounded out collection w the BLNR added, if he can get you one in 6 months I would go for it.

I would do it as the BLNR is a great looking watch and very different than what you own both in form and function. So you have a three piece collection for a bit, no big deal. If three are too many then you can always move one that does not work as well. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

GMT is a very useful complication.

It would make a solid trio, then stick.

The GMT would add a new complication and a pop of color as mentioned above. BUT …..

If you’re happy with its your 2, then stay put. Don’t get sucked down the TRF hole

I don’t know what having all your bases covered means in regard to watches. For me, those two would not do it, and I’d get the BLNR if I had the option, but I like color in my watches. If you don’t like it, of course pass it up.

I would add the BLNR on jubilee then trade the OP for some color or a polar Exp II. This will cover a few more bases!

Interesting use of terms. The AD says they can guarantee the watch at retail for you. Are they selling other Rolex watches for prices other than retail?

I agree with you that your current lineup is a “perfect duo.” And I do think adding the GMT would turn that perfect duo into a perfect trio.

I really like having a trio. Like you, I think I would love just two but having that extra watch somehow fully satisfies me (as described in my video - The whole is greater than the sum of its parts):

Can you comfortably afford it (i.e. disposable cash vs treating it as an “investment” and buying “on margin”), would you wear it, and would you substantially reduce your wear of one of your current pair?

If answer to 1 and 2 are affirmative, sure, go for it. If 1 is negatory, but 2/3 are affirmative, consider a trade.

In your case I would get on the list for an SS Daytona / Sky-Dweller.

You already have two Rolexes with the 32XX movement. I like variance and the 32XX movement has some issues according to what I have read here.

Get what you like. The blnr is a great watch but you are thinking about passing so if that were me, it would give me pause.

I’d stick with the black dial theme and get a black Daytona or black Exp II.

Edit: posted before i read the OP.

I also think the BLNR would be just the right amount of color (and an added complication )
