Bremont’s H1 Release Today

So I know there is a lot of hate on TRF for Bremont, and I am not a huge fan of their costs relative to similar-tier brands, however it is hard to deny that their watches are now of significant quality.

They made their new line release today which consists of a series of watches containing their ENG300 pseudo in-house movement. They made mention of some COSC testing which I didn’t fully understand properly, but it seems they build their watches and test them to COSC spec (and I seem to have picked up that their testing exceeded COSC, but it might be more confusion on my part). While they produced a few limited editions in the past with the ENG300 movement, this release represents a core range containing the new calibre.

I saw the movement for the first time last Tuesday and was rather impressed with both the fit and finish, the design, and overall quality. Today’s release features three models, one of which (the Supernova) included a new case design and a brand new bracelet — the latter is a massive leap forward for Bremont. Given that the watch features their movement protection system, however, the bracelet could have done with a clasp with some adjustment potential; it seems odd to then give the watch a showy dress clasp on a chunky bracelet.

The other two watches are, perhaps not surprisingly, pilot’s style watches and of very little interest to me. I was also hoping for the release of something like an ENG400 — their own take on a traveller’s gmt which would bring the company in line with Mido, Tudor, Longines, and so on. Nevertheless, the Supernova is a big leap forward for Bremont and it is nice to see a line now contain their new movement.

In my opinion, if they threw a rotating bezel on the Supernova, threw in their own traveller’s gmt (perhaps a modification of the ETA like the ENG300), and put on a proper clasp and they would have damn near the perfect watch.

I don't think there is 'a lot of hate' here for Bremont at all, certainly not on the Hublot level anyway. People got turned off by the in-house movement debacle and some sales gimmickry a few years ago, but I think the brand just drifted into 'meh' territory, a bit like Nomos seems to have done, in recent times. Around here, anyway.

Agreed, especially on Nomos which for me is possibile the most overrated and boring brand of all.

With that said, I don't like the case design of this release at all but I recognize to Bremont that they tried to be original, which is not so easy in the overcrowded world of steel-sport-watches-with-an-integrated-bracelet that hit the market lately. They seem to have included two half-links in the bracelet and this should be enough to have a good fit for everyone despite the lack of an adjustable clasp.

I noticed the 1/2 links too. No good if you swell up a lot, though.

I saw the watch on Nick’s wrist in a post today — it didn’t look like it fit him well at all, though it fits Mark Strong well enough.

Not for me. The design merges too many elements together and the visual from pictures does nothing for me. Not a fan of the brand for many reasons.

I kinda liked it but 9k no way. Also article states 53 l2l which seems too big for a 40mm watch. Would have to be assessed in real life. Most Integrateds have the flare out of endlink which make them wear too large imho. Can’t ignore the 5711 (Ish) attempt here

I have 2 Bremonts - both have had to go back to the UK under guarantee, the first for mega-stiff winding and the second, a steel Longitude with this new "in house" mechanism, because it wouldn't wind automatically - the rotor would turn but not wind the barrel.
In both cases Bremont were extremely apologetic and their service was impeccable but 2 from 2 is why I won't be getting a third!

These are even more expensive than the Zenith Defy Skyline. Subjectively I can't think these Bremont are better watches than the Zenith.
