Would You Enjoy Working As A Rolex Watchmaker

On LinkedIn I saw Rolex just post:

Apprendre un métier en combinant expérience pratique et cursus théorique ? C’est ce que Rolex offre au travers de sa filière « apprentissage » qui propose de se former à plus de 10 métiers de l’horlogerie dans un environnement qualitatif et guidé par des experts chevronnés. « Indépendance », « qualité », « découverte » ou encore « passion », si ces mots vous inspirent, venez découvrir les apprentissages chez Rolex :

I have always been intrigued with watch makers

Would love to retire, yes someday, and maybe do 1-2 Rolex services a month for customers. Have fun, have something to do, and make a little money

Man sign me up

But where would you get your parts?
And how about dealing with the public that will want to tear strips off you if the work isn't done to their complete satisfaction and threaten to take you to court

cool job indeed

if (and only if) they expect you to fully comprehend the machine, as opposed to just blindly following instructions

I very much admire the watchmaker's patience, knowledge and skill. Unfortunately, with my poor eyesight and shaky hands I'll just have to be satisfied with wearing the fruits of their labor on my wrist; I also watch videos in amazement as a movement is completely disassembled and then fully restored.

I think it would be tedious as hell year after year. I do admire those who have the temperament for it though.

I agree. I think it would hurt my eyes always looking into a small watch everyday.

I’m sure I would love to learn and practice watchmaking as a hobby. Not as a daily thing, but kind of like how I love working on cars, but at home.

This article from the Rolex site about the Lititz Watch Technicum in Pennsylvania is very interesting.

This is not a school for robots, I can assure of that.

AN EDUCATION IN PRECISION
"Rolex entirely finances and equips the Lititz Watch Technicum, and underwrites the tuition fees at the school. Students buy their own watchmaking tools – a substantial financial investment at their age, but one that stays with them for a career."

Thank you for posting this Grady

It’s interesting that back in 2001, they were struggling with a shortage of labour … it can’t be any better today.

The work environment looks fantastic.

Watchmaking has to be the closest thing to pure zen. Doesn’t seem like a job you could do all riled up.

Lol kinda makes me wonder if I wouldn’t enjoy the brand as much if I worked there. You know how a person who works at McDonald’s eventually gets tired of its food.

That’s definitely not an apple to apple comparison…

Wouldn't work for me for this same reason. My fingers are so clumsy, typing on my phone is difficult.

Would love to try it, but I'd probably get fired for damaging so many watch hands. Not easy to put on watch hands.

Job

I have always been into mechanical things. I didn’t know watchmaking was an actual job while I was in my 20’s….never really thought about it. I think it would be a nice career if someone had the passion. Cleaner than being a mechanic…
.( did that for 5 years!)
