Sudden increase in timing rate?

Have a watch that was pretty accurate. Consistently was around +2 s/day. All of a sudden now it's +17s/day. Doesn't seem magnetized, no drops or bangs. It's very precisely +17 to 18 for the last month. Is there anything specific causes for a rate change that's stayed remarkably stable? The obvious answer is send it for service, which I will but never had any watch do that

How did you test for magnetism?

How old is the watch? How long since the last service? There are a number of things that can cause this issue. Deteriorating lubricant, magnetism, and a loss of amplitude in the balance are common causes. Outside of magnetism, friction is the enemy of rate accuracy. This can be caused by failing lubricant, spring tension, or other factors. A good watchmaker can and should look at your watch, if it is running that fast.

Just used a Suunto compass, dunno how well it works but been told it does. The fact that it's rock solid +17-18 without changing i doubt it's magnetized. Watch is 6 months old. Maybe was in the watch case for 6 months, not that long. It was just odd how it goes from being very accurate for a few months. It's very consistently off tho now which I find odd. Yea it has plenty of warranty left and they will regulate it but I wonder what would cause a shift in timing like that.

Ahh, that's great. Perhaps it just needs re-regulation as consistency is excellent.
