Please Show Your SS Datejusts.

I will be purchasing a new SS DJ within the next couple of weeks, and would very much like to see other members' combinations. Seeing watches which are already configured gives me a much better idea of what I like rather than relying soley on a dial in a catalog. Thanks!

My wife's....the SS one is just prior to a service (very recently done) and now it is back to brand new looking....notice the scratch on the crystal....I don't really need to say so but of course my wife wears her watch for absolutely everything like myself...she was worried to begin with as she had broken so many watches in the past.....I assured her she would have to try very hard indeed to break a Rolex......

Hi Faith,

Janet's 179160. WG Romans with a white dial and smooth bezel.

Also available in a 36mmas you can see above. I am thinking about it.

If it was available in a 40mm I'd be wearing it now.

Eddie.

Eddie,

Janet's watch is a class act, so subtle and tailored. You don't feel the 36 mm is large enough? I think it would look wonderful! Faith

I hope to be as well Taffi. I love the 16220 Engine turned Bezel like Colnago's. Gorgeous watches Sir!

Are you going with men's women's or midsize and what bezel do you like Taffi?

Patrick

Mine, just brand new last week.

Love the two-toned silver/steel dial with the Jubilee.

Good questions, Patrick. I have tried on both 26 mm and 31 mm. I have taken others with me and was told both sizes look equally nice, but I find the 31 mm a little bit cumbersome. I am likely to purchase another 26 mm unless I see a 31 mm which blows me away. I currently own a TT DJ with fluted beel and jubilee bracelet, so this time around, am more inclined towards the domed bezel and oyster bracelet. Once again though, nothing is set in stone. For instance, I love the rose art deco dial with the large 3, 6 & 9, but it has no date, and that might bother me after a while.

Patrick....they're actually both 16030's......silver one from 1986 and the black one from 1988.....both with plexi-crystals...thanks for the compliments.....they are the greatest of the "dress" watches in my opinion...mine have been to hell and back on my wrist and never missed a beat....you cannot go wrong with a DateJust

Hey Bill, (If I may) I thought the black was a 220 for sure since it doesn't appear to have (or I cant see ) Tritium markings. Is it the original dial? Curious as I have been obsessing over these details the last several days learning about DJ's. Boy have I been frying my eyes...and brain, but learning a lot. DJ variations and dates of them are staggering.

You truly have amazing gifts for spotting details....I am very impressed...

Here's the story....been told before.....never mind.....I enjoy story telling....

I had a bad cycling accident a few years back, I fell and the plexi crystal of my black dial DJ took the brunt of the impact with the road surface....it shattered (yes, they do, it isn't only synthetic Saphire that does that....see photo in the link below) damaging the hand set and the dial....the picture you saw earlier in this thread is after it was all fixed up......the new hand set and dial are Luminova not Tritium as you spotted....not authentic as such to the model but I am not worried, the watch will never be for sale (EVER) as it has been through so much with me so it doesn't matter.....my eldest son has had a claim in for this watch for ten years or more and he's only 17.....he knows what it has been through...he has seen me cross a bike race fnish line with my hands held high in triumph and also seen me cross other finish lines physically damaged and very much not triumphant....90% of the time I was wearing that watch (the other 10% was my original silver dial)......they are truly great extremely robust "little" watches....to say I love them is the understatement of the year....

Thanks for sharing the story Bill. I LOVE these stories, but even more when it's about a watch that has been someone's main wearer. Very cool story man. Thanks for the compliment, but the photograph was excellent so credit to you there. The lug holes gave it away though...

It's funny, as I just found that same watch in a Y ser# today... same everything......and I'm working a trade deal on it right now. This is too cool.

Taffi, I apologize for hijacking but your thread has inspired some interesting conversation. More than this too as I will have to make a new thread based on another reply to it and a Different DJ thread I saw earlier. Whew.....

The 16220, and the 16030/1603 with the engine turned bezel are my favourites as well... must get one.... Do not own a DJ at all...

Best,

A

I know that you would prefer to see an image.....I would like to sugest a 31mm SS Datejust, Oyster bracelet, White Gold fluted bezel, Black sunburst dial with applied roman numerals. This is an incredible combo and one that my wife and i had to really search out on a trip to Singapore some time back. The sunburst dial in black really makes the watch unique. Elegant in a non bling way. Will try to post picture by tomorrow.
regards, Imran.
