A good winter coat?

Can anybody tell me what winter coats you recommend? I realise it's summer ( uk ) but sometimes you can pick up a bargain on winter coats at this time of year.
Some of our members in Canada where it gets REALLY cold must know what to buy to keep toasty in the winter.
I like the look of the Canada Goose Chilliwack. What else should I consider?

Columbia and North Face make some decent winter jackets that you should be able to look up on line.

The Chilliwack coats you mentioned are really good as well.

You'll have to bring yourself and your t-shirt up for a taste of -40 in Jan / Feb, Leo!

I am jealous.

All depends on what you intend to be doing while wearing the coat. do you require breathability? Waterproofness? Or simply something really warm?

I am a fan of Barbour waxed cotton coats with liners in the winter, for non-aerobic sporting activities. But for hunting, its great, as well for work engagements and around town activities.

My "sport coat" to go with my sport rolexes goes to North Face, 686 or Marmot, as they also double as my ski coats.

It's difficult to suggest when I don't know your taste, but you can never go wrong with www.llbean.com. Wonderful toggle coats, down jackets, and in fact, any type of coat you'd want. They are likely at a good price now since it's summer. Happy shopping.

, excellent vendor Taffi. I also order winter clothing (down) from LL Bean. Quality is good and so are prices and service.

What type of style do you like and for what use (i.e. everyday, dress, snow)? I got a L.L. Bean coat when I lived in New York that I could wear to Siberia but I never wear it here because of the warmer weather. I bought a nice Burton jacket for when I go to the snow here. I have my warm leather jackets for riding my motorcycles.

I love my Burberry coats. I wear this one and a quilted shorter type when it gets chilly.

In the UK I would think something water proof with a zip-in liner would be the most functional, casual solution. Check out REI.

I am thinking about getting one of these this year. Perhaps a darker color. If you wear with confidence, it would look normal.

This one is better....it's the bomber style

I thought it was the JJ look! Can't you imagine JJ wearing this as he goes out in the cold to play with his sheep!

Bomber style, as in flight jacket? The blasphemy! I will now take the only way out: a large, very, very large gin

Living in Texas, I don't really have a need for a heavy winter coat but I have a few when I travel to Canada during the winter or going skiing.

Arc'Teryx and Marmot for sport, usually a softshell and a gore-tex outshell. Layering is the key to keep warm.

For casual dressy, I just use a Banana Republic pea coat. I would love a Burberry coat, but I can't justify the cost since I wouldn't get much use out of it.

For warmth, I love www.featheredfriends.com
Much warmer and more pliable than my North Face.
My wife and I each have a vest, a jacket, and a sleeping bag. Oh, and a down comforter as well.
