FSOT: 2005 ROLEX DateJust 16234
Hello everyone. Up for sale or trade is a classy ROLEX DateJust 16234 from 2005 with a beautiful silver dial. In general, this watch needs little introduction. But for those who'd like to know a bit more, the DateJust as we mostly know it began life in the late 1950s. Housing the excellent 1570 movement, the watch proved to be an excellent daily wearer, but as an occasional piece in today's collection it early versions suffer from the lack of a quick-set date feature. Queue the switch from the four-digit reference to the five-digit reference in the 1970s and the introduction of the 3035 movement that was more robust than its predecessor and now had the quick-set feature. However, the 160xx versions of the 70s and 80s retained the plexi crystal, making it less durable than its successor. In 1988 the revised DateJust 162xx hit the market. As with the previous switch, this new version included a number of improvements, namely the switch-over to the sapphire crystal and the use of an updated Rolex caliber 3135 movement. While this model remained largely unchanged throughout its lifecycle until the early 2000s, right around the year-2000 mark Rolex did switch from using tritium to using Superluminova for its lume material. This switch improved the lume longevity, allowing the glow to be as powerful today as it was when the watch was manufactured. Given these improvements to the movement, crystal, quick-set date, superluminova, the 2000+ 162xx series DateJust is arguably the most versatile DateJust that still hints at the vintage predecessors that came before it.
This particular one comes as pictured on a folded-link 6251H bracelet sizable close to an 8-in wrist and 555B end-links. While the watch does show wear, the case is free of any rust and clearly shows both the reference number and serial (portion has been blurred on purpose) without any pitting. Additionally, the watch is in excellent mechanical condition beating with a very strong amplitude of over 305 degrees and dead-on accuracy. Based on these numbers, it is likely that you won't need any kind of service for at least five years. Box and papers are not included. I am asking $4850 (check bump posts for price adjustments and ant updated pics) via bank wire or Zelle, or PayPal+fees or Venmo (if you have good feedback / references). Have references on WUS, Reddit, TRF, and 100% feedback on eBay. You can reach me via PM /sonic952525@gmail.com. For trades I am open to offers. However, if you are offering anything other than a straight trade, please let me know your proposal right away. Otherwise I will assume you're asking for a straight trade. Thanks for looking.
