Disney World tickets...
Hi guys,
Our daughter is finally "old enough" to visit Disney (4,5yo), so we are heading to Florida in february. My question is, tickets to Magic Kingdom, are they to be had trough Disney directly? I find it slightly amusing that two parents and a child costs 947 euros... ![]()

I could be wrong but with the park reservation system now, I think you may need to buy through Disney. I just spent $1200 for 2 day passes after a short cruise in November for 2 adults and 2 kids. Don't forget that will not include the daily genie plus feature which was $80 for the four of us each day and some of the premium rides will also charge additional fees to reserve those rides with genie plus. On the days we were there, it was $11 per person to reserve the mine train at the magic kingdom and $20 per person to reserve the rise of the resistance at the studios. We managed to wait in line for each since I refused to pay even more money after already buying the passes and genie plus.
The genie plus system was worth having it just sucks they just don't include it. There's a ton of sites that show you how to use it to take advantage of the best rides. Are you going to be staying on the Disney grounds at one of their hotels? |

Disney is such a rip off now, even as a Florida resident.

Feels like it. However, I visited the Magic Kingdom as a child twice (30+ years ago), and I want my daughter to experience it too.
We reside not in Margaritaville, but Northern Europe. ![]()

Disney World tickets...
Quote:
So I actually live about an hour and a half away from Disney. I haven’t been there since we moved here from PA. However, we went to Disney twice when our kids were much younger. They’re both out of college and living on their own now. In both cases, we went directly through Disney. My wife actually coordinated all of it, so I can’t give a lot of details. But I’m pretty sure everything was done from their website, including hotel arrangements. That was a long time ago… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have only been to Universal since covid and had to buy early. Before that, I went to Magic Kingdom a few times and bought a ticket at the gate. I don't think you can do that anymore, but not sure. Wait times for rides are horrible even with the Fast Pass. Look at park hopper passes. That may be the best value.

Disney has become a joke. Too woke and way too expensive with massive lines and wait times.

Everything that’s been said is true. But it’s still an amazing place for little kids. It’s not a vacation for adult’s. It’s just one of those places that as a parent you suck it up and watch your kids have a blast. The Star Wars area at Hollywood is incredible and Epcot is pretty fun for adults. Just have to have the right attitude.

Last time I went (2019), I bought my passes and full trip through Costco Travel. I got significant discounts on hotel and car rental for buying everything through them.

There have been alternate ways to get tickets in the past (Costco bundles, Disney Vacation Club points purchases, etc) but I'm not even sure those are available with the way Disney is doing their ticketing these days (and it wouldn't amount to a lot of savings anyway.) Your best bet is to go directly through their website. You'll need to book a specific park to start at even if you plan to purchase Park Hopper tickets (that let you travel from park-to-park in a single day.) While all of the parks have some great attractions, it sounds like you're really after Magic Kingdom, especially with a 5-year-old in tow.
I don't agree with some of the earlier commenters that Disney isn't a good place for adults (it can be really fun) or that it's too "woke" (whatever the hell that means,) but we all seem to agree on one thing: whether you think it's worth the money or not, DisneyWorld is very, very expensive these days. But if you have the money - and if you think this may be your only time you'll go with your daughter - then you might as well spend it: buy the Genie+ add-ons, get reservations at a nice restaurant for dinner, book a room at one of the resort hotels (the added perks, like fun theming and free buses to and from the hotel and other parks, are worth the extra cost.) I don't know if you already have specific dates picked out, but there are a lot of crowd calendars out there that can help prepare you for how busy the parks are expected to be on any given date: https://wdwprepschool.com/wp-content...imes-to-go.pdf I've always said that money can't buy happiness, but it sure can make some forms of unhappiness go away. That's especially true at Disney parks. If you can afford to spend money that lets you shave off inconveniences and shorten wait times, do it. Sure, it'll make you wince when it's time to pay the bills, but while you're there, it will reduce stress and give your family more time to enjoy the things you're there to see. Good luck! |

When I read that, my mind flashed to an image of my father sitting at the kitchen table, lowering his paper, looking over the top of his glasses and saying, "I'm sorry, how much did you say?"

It’s not. Not even close.
I took the family last year. It was cheaper to stay at the Waldorf than the on property hotels. It was very, very crowded. Long lines for everything. You can’t get a drink of water on a 90 degree day without standing in line 20 minutes. My last prior visit was 1985. It was a family fun place then. It’s a corporate cash cow now. |

Universal Studios with Fast Pass is a nice alternative jmho. Bush Gardens in Tampa is better still if you love rollercoasters. ![]()

Any Disney property, whether Disneyland, Disney World, Epcot has become something only the wealthy can afford. It's sad as many families have been completely priced out.

They call it Wallet Disneyworld for a reason. Still, the massive overcrowding of the parks has left much to be desired.

No amount of money in the world could replace the photo of me sitting on goofys lap with my sister in Minnie's next to me with my parents standing in the frame.
That image is forever burned into my brain as one of the happiest moments of my life. Sucks it costs so much, but I imagine it would be worth it. If I'm fortunate enough to have a kid/kids someday I certainly hope to recreate the memory. |

Florida resident here (now). If you are coming from overseas, buy thru a Disney partner travel agent ( not necessarily from Disney). You will need tickets and park reservations. A park hopper ticket will let you do multiple parks in 1 day after 2 pm (check into first park with reservation, after 2pm can hop to any other Disney park without reservation/charge). If you stay at a Disney resort hotel you can get in earlier and stay later but the hotel may be more expensive than off property. That said, many hotels in the area offer free transport to Disney and may be cheaper but more effort to get back to mid day if the kids (and parents) need a nap. Without kids, we’ve found Disney to be less crowded from about 1-4pm as people take kids back for naps. A travel agent can help you get reservations for in-park sit down dining (characters and princesses wander thru the restaurants) but we have found the park food to be grossly overpriced and grossly underwhelming.
All that said, Feb is a good time to visit (cooler temps and lower humidity). Come to the sunshine state and have fun with your family. Don’t get lost in the “perfect vacation” idea. Have a good time and say hi to the mouse

Personally I've never really understood the draw of the places. Been to Anaheim and Orlando years ago.
Think I much prefer going to a real zoo. Pretty great marketing by Disney Corp, I guess.

I guess the $99 year pass for Florida residents that I had while in college is no longer available?
