Chat GPT - The best 5 watch collection

With the time of open AI upon us, I thought I would ask the obvious question, what is the best 5 watch collection. After saying how best is subjective, and as soft wear doesn’t have emotion, it said these 5 of generally regarded as some of the best watches out there
It said:
Submariner
Omega moonwatch
Nautilus
Royal Oak
Cartier Tank

Maybe it tried to not be biased and give 5 different brands. But interesting to see what 5 it gave.

Personally. In a 5 watch collection the RO and Nautilus are too similar. Not sure about the tank either, personally would put a reverso in before that. Also Daytona over moonwatch? But this is the Rolex forum after all.

Mine would probably go:
Submariner
Daytona
Royal Oak
Day Date YG
Patek 3940

Maybe a more human touch.

The 3940 was the watch of choice by Philippe stern.. what else needs to be said. It’s incredible.

The 5940 case is a work of art. Reserved for very special pieces 3670 & 5950 come to mind.

It is refined and provides dimension without the addition of a separate bezel.

For me the 5940 has a bit more character… perhaps it would have been mr sterns choice had it been available at the time.

I asked Chat GPT last time the perfect three watch collection and it said:

Submariner, Speedmaster and Navitimer.

Honestly pretty solid

Sure there are more special watches but from a practical and wearable aspect, the above hit the mark for me. Ex. nothing I ever owned was more special than the resonance but i experienced reliability issues, requiring service twice in two years. (Unacceptable for me)

5167 is a great alternate, it’s a fantastic all around watch with superior legibilty and water resistance. Thin and refined. (The deployant needs improvement but that’s a separate issue)

Huh?

The Speedmaster Moonwatch is iconic as the Daytona and Submariner.

Speedmaster is surely one of the most iconic watch ever produced together with sub and gmt.. you probably have a brain damage for not loving this watch. No offense

Speedmaster
Daytona
Royal oak
Nautilus
Some type of PP perpetual

I don’t think nautilus and RO are similar at all, other than being two sports watches designed by Genta. Side by side completely different finishings.

Moonwatch as in Speedmaster is a solid choice. Perhaps the most comfortable bracelet too imho.

Needs to be based on budget, or better to say type of watches for the 5.

Sports watch, time only, dress watch, watch with some type of complication (chrono, gmt, annual calendar, perpetual calendar, etc), bonus watch.

This is a good checklist and that’s a definite complement…variety of brands with their iconic models. I like the aesthetics of every single one…so no need to overthink.

When I think 5-watch collection, I think a field/traditional pilot style watch, diver, GMT, chrono, and dress. And then I'd just pick what I believe to be the most iconic in each category.

IWC Pilot
Rolex Sub
Rolex GMT Master II
Omega Speedy Pro
Patek Calatrava

So that would be my 5.

I like this - with unlimited budget I’d go for a perpetual calendar from Patek given their pioneering work with the complication.
