Celebration dial allocation "committed already"

Hey y'all,

I shot an email over to an AD I have purchased a no date sub as well as a pepsi from in mid 2022 and April of 2023 respectively. I wanted to register my interest for the 36 OP celebration dial. Opinion is split on this watch, I totally get it however, I absolutely love how fun it is and it just seems like the perfect summer watch.

Regardless, I send them an email, they said sounds amazing and then asked which size I wanted and I told them 36. They responded, "wonderful, I will note your preference, however, after speaking with my colleagues, I believe our allocation for this piece is committed already. From my understanding, we will only, possibly, receive one of these dials."

What a load of BS, only getting one piece . Do y'all think this team is simply uninformed or what are the chances they really are only getting one of each size..... If history is any indicator, they are completely full of it.

I don't know why you wouldn't believe your AD. They've gotten you two good watches so you aren't a customer they are simply blowing off. My AD indicated the celebration dial was by far the most requested Rolex from W&W.

They qualified the statement with "from my understanding" and "possibly." If that's what they're told, that's what they're told. Why isn't that possible?

If someone shares with you the most current information they have and you crucify them for it, why would they share anything with you in the future? I just don't get this reaction at all. There are two Rolex AD that I visit and they are genuinely nice folks who try to do their best. Someone who got you those two watches seems like a good SA to me. I'd be inclined to believe them from the facts you shared.

Seems believable actually. Rolex seemed to learn well to how to sell these dials like Pokemon cards. Rare enough off the printing run and will be able to sell. Too many pulls of the same color and none of them move. Make it feel random like hitting jackpot to get one, and people go gaga for all of them and want to collect them all.

I think a lot of people, in public or on TRF, are underestimating how rare a celebration OP is. It's an OP, but the quantities are going to be really low, and it would not be surprising if it's a one year production piece.

I would say it's in line with a few members previous threads or posts here.

The celebration OP is rare! And it's indeed a celebration for those who get allocated one!

i called the AD completely bs. they always like to create this illusion that it's exclusive.

they want to make you feel important and spend more money with them

Yes, bet it is a very rare dial with ADs getting perhaps one or two examples. If you have solid proof otherwise then show it to us please. Name calling here on TRF and saying ADs are liars....

FYI: I didn't even ask about availability from my longtime AD as it seems very obvious this dial version would be exceedingly rare.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if an AD only receives one, maybe two of these watches at most in a year. I think big city boutiques will receive the majority of them, but even in that case I don't think anyone will see a lot of this dial.

I put my name down instantly for a coral red OP36 and OP41 at my local AD. That was years ago, and since then my SA has quit. She has no association with the AD anymore and still maintains she never saw one come through in her time there. I actually believe her.

Eventually I bought one privately for my wife and when we stopped in the AD the entire staff gathered to look at it. Every person in there including the manager said they never saw one before. I'm not a VIP and seriously doubt they would orchestrate a store wide lie, especially since our visit was a random drop in.

I would absolutely believe 1-2 per size per dealer. There are about 1,800 Rolex ADs worldwide. If Rolex wants each to get at least one of these in each size, that puts minimum production at 5,400/yr. For some to get one of each, and some to get two, that would bring total production to, let's say, ~9,000. That's about 1~ of the estimated worldwide production of all watches. To me, even that seems high.

The AD is correct. This dial is going to have very limited allocations and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s only available for one year.

Especially after scoring some popular references from them in the recent past.

Each dealer will probably get under 5 pieces a year. You aren't one of the top 5 customers at your AD.
Deal with it and don't throw a tantrum.

The OP is correct. AD's lie, tell you what you want to hear, etc. That being said, it's just business--they are not your friends or "watching out for you". Once the AD and his or her family acquire all the pieces they want, then it's the SA's turn. After that, the saps that are willing to bundle worthless jewelry. Watch aficionados such as ourselves are at the bottom of the list unfortunately.

And that is most likely across all three available sizes. Like I said, there’s basically zero percent chance that this single configuration of Rolex’s least expensive watch makes up greater than 1% of all production (assuming every dealer will get at least one).

You sure they weren't talking about the emoji/puzzle piece dial? Only reason I'm asking is because the watch is the same price with that or a solid color dial. Though perhaps they just meant 50hrs start to finish (because it's painted in layers that have to dry) and not 50hrs of actual labor?

We were discussing how I might get one. She said they will likely only get one in. And I expressed surprise at that and that is when she said it takes 50 hrs to make JUST the dial. She thought it was a poor allocation of resources on Rolex’s end. Can’t say I disagree, 50 hrs on an OP dial.

Celebration dial allocation "committed already"

It’s possible and even likely true. But honestly, who cares. He’s telling you there is little to no chance and that’s all that matters. The real reason does not matter. He could be fibbing because he does not want to offend you with the truth. “We have prioritized other clients with much larger spends with us over you for this piece.”

Would you rather be told no AND be offended?

It’s a polite “no” and maybe even the truth. Move on.

Also, you have been allocated two hard to get SS sport watches in a 12 month span with the most recent one this month. As the kids say, check your privilege.

So you bought 2 basic SS models and expect to be allocated one of the biggest hits of W&W?

To me, that’s delusional. Your AD did an excellent job gently breaking the news that no, you’re not getting this watch from them. Might want to register interest with other ADs but I doubt that’s going to get you the watch.

Or you can wait until they’re on the grey market, sell your two watches and maybe others, and pay what, $25k, $35k?

So funny because all I hear from WISes is hatred for this dial. And all the while, I've been thinking, "This will be incredibly popular."
