With utter delight, I share this with you all
This post has been a longtime coming & I’m happy to share my personal achievement with this group.
(TL;DR … I saved up for a while & bought a watch.) For me, a Rolex has always marked personal achievement. I became enamored with the brand after seeing various Rolexes on my father’s wrist over the course of his life. As a kid, it was “ooh, shiny,” but as an adult it’s more of a “I bet that person worked diligently & rewarded themselves.” I have a distinct memory as a kid of seeing a YG DD36 on the wrist of my dad’s CEO at a company party during the early 90s & being enamored. The CFO, a longtime family friend, had a two-tone 5-digit Sub & I was instantly hooked on the brand. I was never in a financial position to purchase my own until a few years ago. I knew it had to be special, to commemorate what I consider to be the biggest series of achievements in my life thus far. I started saving when I was still in the Navy, originally with my sights on a blue Milgauss. I passed on one when they were trading for like $8k a few years ago because it didn’t feel right at the time. I honestly felt like I didn’t “deserve” one yet. I then had the opportunity to buy a 6-digit two-tone Sub. Passed again. Timing didn’t feel right. Kept saving, kept investing. The time will come. I don’t “need” it now. Patience. I’m of the school of thought that not wanting many things, but wanting the singular, best thing possible, is the way to go. I’d trade all the colorful Timexes in the world for one single, special piece (an outlandish example, but maybe you understand). I then saw the Smurf. That was it. I knew I had to have it. That’s the top of the Submariner pyramid. Kept saving, kept investing. Now, fellow obsessive maniacs, I’m proud to show that after one decade of saving, four deployments, one degree & one out-of-the-park, civilian job offer, my dream has been realized. My full set 116619LB has found its forever home alongside my father’s 16233 that was gifted to me on my wedding day. Now, if anyone (does VTC Guy Paul still frequent this place? If so, I got you those VFA-97 t-shirts, you owe me!) wants to buy me a beer because I’ve spent all my pennies on a watch (jk), please LMK (sorry for the small pic, I had to resize so it met the attachment requirements) |

Amazing Incoming and even more special given all the time and patience you've invested in it.
It truly is amazing to have engineering and art on your wrist and look down and appreciate all that went into its design and the personal commitment to own it. Congratulations, enjoy the memories you'll make with that beauty! |

Congrats my friend. It’s a stunner.
I purchased my first Rolex when I returned from OIF in 2003. Figured I lived through it so might as well treat myself. I still love the watch today 20 years later. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
