Icon19 Randomly acquired Rolex at AD.

So currently on a trip to Alaska, and we were driving around just randomly exploring the city. A friend recommended going to the Rolex place. I was like "we can, but they won't have anything". So we stopped. SA introduced himself and was pretty friendly. He let us try on the usual exhibition pieces and we talked Rolex watches for a few minutes. Told him I assumed they didn't have any in stock. He said they didn't..... He got the catalog out, and we started looking through it together commenting on which watches we liked/owned/wanted. SA pulled out a piece of paper and pen and, I was telling him what I was looking for. When we got to the third watch I described and located in the catalog, the SA said "you really want this one?" Of course, I acknowledged. He said he "might have one in the back and for me to wait here". I said sure. A couple minutes later he comes out with the watch. I basically told him I would take it. It was the exact configuration I had described as we were looking through the catalog.

I am still trying to get over how all of this just magically fell into place. God does indeed work in mysterious ways! This is my first AD purchase.

I will get better photos once I get home if there is a desire to see them.

He agreed with you when you said 'you didn't have any in stock', then sold you one in stock. I'm glad you got the watch you wanted, but these BS games are ridiculous.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago in Indiana with an OP. Exact same story. The SA started saying she didn't have anything to sell. Then I enquired about that specific rhodium dial model, and she asked me to wait a minute. She came back seconds later with the watch in questions saying "is that the one you're talking about?". I confirmed, and the watch was mine.

All this to say that unless you're looking for a hype piece, and if they have that non-hype piece in the back, they are very likely to sell it to you on the spot. You just have to be there at the right time, with the right watch in mind.

For the UK guys I had similar at Heathrow today in T5. No stock at first then when I explained I was interested in a two tone sub I was told a two tone explorer was in stock if I wanted it. I didn’t but hopefully someone else got what they wanted!

That’s a great looking watch and I personally think jubilee and smooth is the best combo for a DJ. Especially if the DJ dial has Roman’s.

Well done and congratulations!

Even in Alaska they're hiding the inventory in the back

Congrats OP

Congratulations! God does indeed work in mysterious ways. But don’t people like that SA find it awkward, at the very least, to say, one minute, “We have nothing in stock”, and then, the next minute, “Hold on, I might have that for you in back”? Is lying so much a part of the sales culture that salespeople don’t even realize they’re lying … or that others will notice?

It’s like Schrödinger’s cat. Even the SA doesn’t know what’s in the box :)

Congrats OP!!!

Most people prefer a fluted bezel, so maybe when he said no stock he was referring to the usual suspects.

Wear it in great health!

Smooth bezel saves a bunch of money. I like the smooth and jubilee or fluted and oyster combos myself. I think fluted on jubilee is a lot going on.

I don’t really have a huge issue with how the AD played it. If I’m trying to stop flippers my initial answer to “do you have any Rolexes” from a Rando walking off the street is going to be “no” and “ why don’t you tell me what you’re looking for.”

Dude got a watch in his first visit. Don’t really think we can complain about this AD.
