Suddenly losing 1 sec/day...issue?
08 Explorer II 16570, bought in March '21 with a full service form an AD.
Until a few weeks ago, I could keep the watch within 1 sec of my iPhone with the old overnight resting position trick. Over the last few weeks I've been losing 1 sec a day despite resting face up at night. My activity level and wear has not changed. Something has changed but is it significant or unusual? |

1 second off? Completely unusable for time telling.

Send it to me, and I'll immediately post you a $30 Casio that will keep that 1s per day.

The OP is simply asking what may have changed if everything else is the same. I think a valid question.
I honestly have no idea but it is certainly running accurately. Better than most brand new luxury watches. It is a 15 year old watch so you might need to cut it some slack, full service or not. You may have unknowingly knocked it causing a slight regulation issue. In any event, I would probably recommend giving it a few months without obsessing over the accuracy. Check it again. Unless it’s completely out of whack, I would not sweat it. If it is, simply send it for service. |

I think your watch is actually correct and all other clocks are wrong.

Not a problem and nothing to worry about, the 3185 is very reliable. Now if it speeds up that is another story, lol(usually magnetized).

Temperature, overnight resting position, changing activity on the wrist. So many factors can take or add that 1 second.

Wow, tough crowd... The dude isn't whining about one obviously in-spec second--he's wondering why it suddenly changed, with the corollary being, essentially, "If it can't be predicted, who knows if it might happen later, and again, until one day it's losing 8 seconds?"
Gerry, completely understood. I mean, my new DJ41 first ran +2, then slowed a hair to dead-on, which was great...and eventually ran -5 or 6, whereupon it was RSC time. My dingus thought is that if you're adequately wound--and maybe it couldn't hurt to add some manual--there seems little to do except ride it out and hope things stay decent. Worst-case scenario, it gets worse, and ultimately you ask RSC to smooth 'er out. |

Especially as there are well north of 86000 seconds in a day that are measured off at 1/8 th of a second each in the case of our modern Rolex movements, which can put things into a rather different perspective. I am sure some respondents are joking around, whilst some may be jealous and others envious or even uncaring but respond in another fashion anyway |

It is a mechanical watch..... just wear and enjoy. Because it is expensive does not mean that it is perfect in every facet in every second.

Flames aside... I would not check this so often and you'll be able to enjoy the watch. This sounds like nothing to worry about.

Sounds “Superlative” to me for an older watch. I hope mine are as accurate in 15 years!

Keep up the resting position self regulation to try and cancel it out with a faster resting position. Your watch sounds like it's set up well with such great accuracy. I used to have two of them which ran spot on for many weeks on end as well as a 114270 that was equally as good, then out of the blue they may lose a second or a little more and keep running like that. If I let them run down as part of a rotation then put them back on weeks or months later, they would run just as well as they originally were. It's the way of these remarkable tiny machines. Enjoy |
