Icon19 Which modern Rolex will become a future popular vintage?

It might be fun to think / anticipate / predict about which modern Rolex will become a popular vintage model in coming decades.

I go first. 116719.
1. The first precious metal (WG) pepsi.
2. The first ceramic pepsi.
3. Only been produced from 2014-2017. (Then comes 126710, 126719, etc.)
4. Black dials and blue dials can be officially swapped at RSC. (It amazed me for a modern Rolex).

What do you think? What is your choice?

I believe that any less popular Rolex model today will become sought after as they are eventually rediscovered in the future, becoming rare and highly desired, since not many people bought or pursued them today.

Watches become more beautiful with age. That's the allure of watches, especially Rolex.

Exactly.

Most people are posting the watches they own/love, but looking at history the watches that have become highly sought after are those that were largely unloved when they were in production.

The CHNR. Unique; beautiful. Calls back to vintage root beers but with a modern twist because of the rose gold.

These are candidates - all had short production runs (note, the meteorite Daytona below is a proxy for all of them that were released - these had a very short run, and they’re meteorite dials, and they’re Daytonas).

39mm 114300 oyster perpetual with the dark rhodium dial and blue accents.

Very short run, and nearly all of the attention in that 39mm series is focused on the white dial.

Just because something is rare or unloved now, doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be popular later. In most cases, those same watches are unloved or unpopular for a reason, and that reason likely won’t change IMO.

Here’s my list of what collectors will love:
Colorful OPs
116500 Daytonas
Tudor Black Bay “Smiley”
Black dial WG BLRO

Who knows, perhaps in the future (30-50 years from now) all these watches will be popular as much as pocket watches these days. Meaning hardly anyone will be interested in buying them and will only have a small market.

This…right here. It’ll be all ‘smart’watches. Disposable/outdated, just like our phones.

I always cringe at men who wear smartwatches. "I can keep track of my vitals as I work out!"

Lmao, OH WHAT AN ATHLETE!

Biased opinion because I own it and love it, but I think the Everose TT YM40 with chocolate dial is greatly overlooked. It maintains so much of what I loved about the shape of a 5 series Rolex, but with a modern bracelet and clasp. I love this model the longer and longer I own it....

Milgauss white and black dial. Not the GV models. Not so popular when they were made.

My pick of the bunch are:

116710LN - the only six-digit stainless steel GMT-Master II with a black ceramic bezel (unlikely to be repeated?).

124270 - Explorer 36mm, vintage case profile and bracelet taper with modern build quality and dial design.

126719BLRO - that gorgeous meteorite dial!
