No Date Sub and SD43 in the Same Collection?

In July, I bought a no date Sub (124060) from DavidSW. (Smooth transaction--very happy with David living up to his reputation.) Then last week, quite unexpectedly, I got a call from an AD for a SD43. This was not my regular AD, and I frankly had forgotten that back in May I had stopped in, tried on the SD43, liked it, and asked them to put me on the list--never expecting to hear from them. So I was very surprised when just 4 months later they called to say come get your watch.

I was a little unsure since I've been wearing and liking my 124060, but I decided to buy it anyway. And, boy, am I glad I did. I absolutely love the SD43. I haven't taken it off of my wrist during waking hours. It may be my favorite Rolex, if not my favorite watch.

The question is, what should I do with my no date Sub? Seems awfully redundant to have two black dive watches in my collection. Maybe I should sell it back and get a different Submariner, like a Starbucks or Bluesy? Or sell it back and get something different (like an Explorer II)? Or should I keep it because it is a classic no date Sub, and I will come back to it once the honeymoon has worn off with the SD43.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'd keep both as they are totally two different watches.

Besides your two, I also have the 126610 and 16610. It's not about redundancy, rather about dependency, but they are also different and beautiful in the same way.

I'd keep both for the moment. Whatever you do don't rush into selling your Submariner (no date)...it´s far too much of a classic, imo! See how you feel about both watches in maybe a few months!?

heres my two cents as someone that owns both watches as well. while they are similar, they actually are quite different. first off, they wear completely different based on their weight and also the thicker case back on the sea dweller. the submariner wears and looks much flatter. for me, a big difference is the dials. the sea dweller has the matte/satin dial with the red font which really stands out in sunlight. i love both watches and think that there is definitely room for both

They are similar in looks to the average person ,totally understandable . Congratulations on the sd43 great looking diver! Do not rush to sell and after you are comfortable and feel no love sell! Good luck!

SD is like a bigger version of sub date.
I would sell sub if I were you, but again I’m not you

Both are great. As mentioned keep for a little while, evaluate later. That said, I’d consider the ND for a Bluesy move.

I believe they are different enough, both great possess qualities unique to each of them. At least keep them both for a while at least if not forever. I think they can survive together.

SD43 is simply a large sub. Keep the one that fits your wrist size better

They can co-exist in a collection but I personally wouldn’t want both.

As some others have said, give it some time….maybe 6-12 months and then you could consider selling off the one you like less to make room for something less similar.

Nothing the same about either of these, however I think you will gravitate to one or the other which might make the "other" redundant .

You have the shiny new object syndrome. Keep both and in a year, better two or three if you find you never wear one of them then trade it. It’s quite common to only want to wear the new watch when you get one. Only after some time passes can you make an objective decision. Congratulations!

I think it depends on the size of your wrist. I like both of these watches and was I was choosing between these specific two pieces because I made up my mind to go grey and they both had a rather minimal mark-up on the secondary market. It comes down to size, date, and the red label.

You can probably get at least whatever you paid back for whichever piece you decide to part with - if that’s the route you take.
