Sprite fizzling

Hi folks, I keep hearing rumors that the GMT Sprite is going away. I know that no one really knows but what is the consensus here? They seem to be dropping in value for some reason.

Because it doesn’t appeal to the masses. It’s a left hand persons watch. Great color though

It’s trading for a huge premium still so it must have a strong appeal.

I wear mine on the left and it is perfect. The most comfortable watch I’ve ever had, no crown dig and it stays put as the weight of the crown side doesn’t pull it down the arm.

Yes, incredibly attractive color scheme.

Maybe they'll make it into a right-hand version and sell more.

That's what I'm hoping for and would be east to do, just a different build with existing GMT parts. I could see it happening.

I do not think they have problems selling it though.

It's actually the only gmt I like

Good, I hope it is discontinued! As for pricing it’s following the trend of all other Rolex so nothing to interpret.

Prices are dropping because that's the current way the watch market is trending. I can't see such a recent intro being discontinued but you never know.

Are they trading for less than they were a few months ago? Yes. It's a very polarizing watch, as for many, it's "unwearable." Wouldn't surprise me if a RHD version came out down the road, but I don't think this will be that quick of a flash-in-the-pan to be discontinued within the next two years.

Just picked one up and after wearing it a few times, it is just not my cup of tea. Wondering if I should just sell it.

Sell it. It was a hype watch and doesn't appeal to most

I think it is a watch which has limited appeal, once the novelty and FOMO wore off.

I am right handed but I wear the watches on the right wrist since I am a kid and I always dreamt of inverted rolex. I do not care if it is not appealing to most and i do not flip my watches.
Regardless the AD owner does not seem interested to sell one to me

Love mine. If discontinued my guess is it retains value at the very least. Doesn’t really matter cause I hope to hold onto mine.

It's normal for the value to come down to earth as more are released, and more interested parties become owners.

As a VTNR owner I would love for it to be discontinued, but that is most likely just wishful thinking.

Though this is not my favorite SS GMT in pictures, it is my favorite to wear. The colors really look great on the flesh, at least with my eye. It is actually the only 40mm watch I have worn for several years. The BLNR and BLRO look smaller on my wrist for some reason. Same watch, but the green black just looks better.

I’m left handed and not into the lefty. I like the colors though. Would be very popular as a traditional non destro.

I could choose between Pepsi / Batman and this at my AD

This is the one I wanted since the presentation, I am right handed and wear it on the left. Its different, its unique, its fun and the colour combination is awesome. Pepsi/Batman are too flashy for me.

I hope they retire it! hahah

What has happened to the value of your SD43 and SkyD?

The SD43 is a below retail watch now! Looks like the SD43 has lost whatever little fizzle it had and has gone completely flat!

SD43 has dropped to about what I paid for mine 5 years ago, maybe a little better than what I paid. My Blue SkyD is still worth way more than I paid for it.

The SKYD has fallen way off from the resale when Sprite was released, way off. Yes, SD43 was never popular, but even so, it is down down down from its price a couple years ago.

What’s up with these two watches? How come they aren’t popular anymore? Or more accurately, why has SD43 always been shunned?

sd43 is a big watch which makes it more niche and on top of that a lot of people say it doesn't wear comfortably because it's top heavy. the nail in the coffin is that it's $3000 more than a sub which is essentially the same watch

The reference is relatively recent; it's unlikely they'll discontinue it so soon.
The hype is dying out, that’s why it seems to have dropped its market value.
How about we wait until March….

I hate speculating overall, but I’ve heard the same rumor from many people lately. However here is my take on it.

This era is all about inclusion and diversity. Although this watch has nothing to do with race or sex or anything, it’s the only left hand watch in the catalog and lefties should be included and have a spot in a major watch brand catalog for sure in this day and age. Just off that I don’t see it being discontinued.

If not for the general Rolex hype this particular model would be "chopped liver" and very difficult to sell:
- Few buyers for a lefty watch
- Green is normally not popular

I know every reference will have a fan base and I get it - it's not an ugly model or anything. But a regular black sub would outsell it 100:1 if everything were available.

I'm not sure it's a "lefty" watch. I'm left handed and wear watches on my left hand only. I'd guess most folks by one as a curiosity and because of the colors, not that it's a left handed watch.

I do have a LHD Tudor, because it's a lefty (worn on my left hand only) but hey, I'm only 10% of the population.
