Being direct with AD

Hi All

I need to buy the other half an engagement ring. Do you think i can go into an AD and be as direct as, if i buy this ring can you bundle it with this watch.

What are your thoughts?

Absolutely! I didn't even want to marry my wife, but saw engagement and the subsequent wedding as a great opportunity to get my spend up at my local AD.

As it happens, I'm now divorced and bought a Seiko instead.

Hope you have better luck than I did...

LOL, I wished someone told me this before I got married. Instead of saying, "congrats, when's the big day?"

Haha. Brilliant.

Sad thing is, I’d wager they’ll be plenty of people that actually did exactly this.

I’ll bet the ex-wife kept the Rolex as well!

When the engagement ring tops $100K, it should help.

$50K and you're on thin ice.

It's the profit margin that matters.

Before the nearby AD lost their status with Rolex, a purchase history of $30K wasn't helpful...

I would not give/trust/enrich my other half with a $100k ring

And yet I have gotten 3 watches in 2 years with zero purchase history or bs jewelry purchases with Lee Michael’s. Just depends on the AD I guess. Or maybe the buyer…….

This is what my local Rolex AD told me to get a steel Daytona...This is exactly why Rolex needs to get rid of their shitty AD network.

Holy crap!!

My wife is ecstatic with her $6k ring......I think she would've killed me if it would've been $100k. She would definitely prefer to invest that much in some property or somethin glike that.

I mean $100k is some serious cheddar!!

Dont ask. Tell. You are the customer so tell them what YOUR conditions are in buyer multiple jewelry purchases.

Agree with this 100%. Your money, your terms. Tell them you are in the market for both and want to make a package deal. "Can you make that happen for me?"

I did this exact thing in 2021 when I bought my SubC. I was in the market for 2 watches (one for the wife) and I told the AD exactly that. "I want to buy both. I am ready to swipe my card whenever if you can make this happen. Call me."

AD says he will see what he can do. I got a call 30 minutes later saying he will be able to get both watches I wanted by next week.

It can't hurt. Being upfront is always best in my opinion. I'd just walk in and tell them you are looking for two specific items: an engagement ring and a watch. They will give you the usual song and dance about wait times, etc. Just be specific about what piece you're looking for. When it comes time to discuss the engagement ring, go through the whole process, select something, and then tell them you are going to think about it.

It's much easier to politely take your time with an engagement ring (which they readily have available) and it politely puts them in a position to influence your decision to go with them if they can also find the watch you are looking for. I do this all the time. I tend to buy watches from my AD when my wife also wants something that I know they have.
