New from AD??

How difficult is it to get a new RO from an AD? I called the closest one which is NY. Before I could be registered or placed on a waiting list I would need to visit the store in person, which is about 5 hours away. Before I spend money and time making a trip to NYC for a weekend, I wanted to see if I am just wasting my time???

I've heard it is very hard to get a RO as your first watch in NYC boutiques!

The grey market on RO has come down very significantly…better off flying to NY and hitting the diamond district to buy one on the spot.

If you're going to NYC and doing other stuff like going to a nice dinner or a show etc sure. But just to visit AP , hell no.

100%. Don’t waste your time. Locals have tried for years and haven’t gotten ROs as their first

That’s what I was thinking. I want the RO 38 stainless and I’m sure it’s not the most thought after RO but a RO nonetheless and will be hard to get.

How is buying on Moda? I am part of the group and have followed a long time but have never bought as it it seemed a lot less secure than something like Chrono. Is it pretty reputable?

+1. Moda is by invitation only now. Has been for a little bit. Too late for OP to get in, but yes, Moda is excellent. No platform is perfect, but most are solid in the group.

NYC quoted me 20 years for a 26715, about 10-12 years on a RO 15550

I went grey and got a 15300

These are wild numbers. I was on the list for Atlanta for over 2 years for both these references and got nowhere and then the boutique closed. They are opening another here but would just be starting the process all over again.

Yeah, I was surprised that the one in Lenox closed; I believe they were run by Watches of Switzerland, and the new AP that will open up in Buckhead Village will be run by AP themselves.

Very few things are impossible - if you do make the trip, your chances will definitely be better than they would be if you don’t make the trip. If you do go, I recommend going to the AP House instead of the boutique - they have a small museum of sorts there that is worth checking out, and they usually have some exhibition pieces to try on.

Other route is to go grey as others have suggested.

I got a Royal Oak as my first offering from the Atlanta boutique in 2020. Then waited 4 years to be offered an offshore.

You’re wasting your time in NYC. The sales associates string you along trying to convince you that you have a chance at a RO, but steer every conversation to a Code. I had an hour long conversation with Natalie, the NYC manager a couple months ago.

New clients can’t get any RO with a blue or green dial.

She refuses to provide any estimate, however remote, on timing of anything

You can’t get a RO in precious metal.

She generally doesn’t know what she’ll have for sale or when because LeBrassus doesn’t communicate it to her.

Gray dial RO is a possibility, everything else is “very difficult.” If you hear those words, walk away.

Even if you buy a Code at retail, she makes no promises on a RO.

ROs are sold based on a tiered allocation system that favors big spenders.

My sales associate told me that of the “thousands” of clients he’s had, he’s only sold a RO to a new client twice in six years. But rest assured, I’m going to stand out as the guy he’s going to “advocate for” among “thousands” buyers. I’m not sure how any of the SAs keep their prospective clients straight.

Regardless of whether you’re offered something, the brand collects a whole lot of personal information to build a profile on you and market things to you it has no intention of offering. After learning all this, I had my “profile” deleted. No sense in having all that personal information out there when a sale isn’t likely.

The pursuit of a RO in Chicago and Dallas is the same. The guy in Chicago told me I was wasting my time.

Go gray. You might spend a bit more, but a) you’ll have your watch, and b) it’ll probably cost less in the long run than buying things you don’t want (I.e. Codes) with no guarantee you’ll ever be offered what you want.

I would not recommend a trip to the NYC boutique in hopes of acquiring a RO as a first-time AP purchaser. The odds against them ever delivering a watch to you are just too great.

As many others here have said, I too would go gray/used from a reputable seller at this time and in this market.

You’re not getting a RO as your first watch from AP. You need to invest in the relationship and discuss your collecting journey.

FYI, for those who think Moda is great, both of these were posted for sale by a big seller on there and a “group expert”

Here’s another gem from a “reputable” dealer:
