Trade Panda Daytona for a Jumbo 16202?

I always find these "which collection" threads fun. Had a few before, but like many watch nerds, the chase is always the fun part. And a key part of the chase is seeing all the upgrades and various combinations one could achieve. Here's the choice I have:

Current collection: 126500ln Daytona Black, 126500ln Daytona White, 126710 BLRO Pepsi on Jubilee. Have a budget for $50,000 to either add, exchange what have you

1. Option 1: Trade the 126500ln Daytona White ("Panda"; I prefer the black over white) and and $40,000 for a 16202sr "Jumbo." Spend the remaining $10k on a no-date sub.

Final Collection: 126500ln Black, 126710 BLRO, AP 16202 Jumbo and a 124060 No-Date Sub (could also add a little more and get a Mk 2 Kermit)

2. Option 2: Keep the Panda Daytona and add a Lange 1815 Up Down and VC Overseas 4520v Blue (both grey)

Final collection: 126500ln Black, 126500ln White, 126710 BLRO, Lange 1815 Up Down, VC Overseas 4520 Blue

3. Option 3: Trade the Panda Daytona for an AP but not the Jumbo. Instead trade for the 15510st (in white or black) + $5k cash leaving $45k for the Lange, Kermit and a 321 Speedmaster

Final Collection: 126500ln Black, 126710 BLRO, AP 15510st, Lange 1815 Up Down, Rolex Submariner Mk 2 Kermit, Speedmaster 321

Option 1, 2 or 3?

Mods, apologies if these collection threads are repetitive. Can remove if that is the preference.

I think your trade values are optimistic. You won’t get as much as you think for your Daytona.

I wouldn’t trade a SS Daytona for a AP 16202 Jumbo nor VC Overseas 4520 Blue.

I wouldn’t pay over retail for the 15510st so I would just add it to my collection keeping the other pieces. I have the AP 26331ST Panda but as I said I refused to pay over retail so I got it retail (now discontinued). APs RO are beautiful watches to stare at and behold but boy are they delicate and scratch-prone. I wear mine only when I know exactly where I am going without any detours or possible complications which is a very rare day which means I don’t wear it much.

Sorry I couldn’t be of any constructive help

I second this sentiment. Extremely delicate, and like this member mine too are only worn when I know exactly what my day/night entails

I'd do option 2. If I had to pick I'd choose my 4520 as a one and only over my white Daytona.

Option 1 approved! I'd like the collection you'd have left.

A Panda for a Jumbo sounds like a Chinese bear for a 747

Obviously I have no idea what a Jumbo is.....

Jumbo is a special piece and hugs a wrist like no other.

It’s also quite legible compared to the Daytona.
The date setting issue has been resolved from the previous iteration so that’s also a plus.

Not quite clear on the financials you are describing, don’t really care but straight up that jumbo trumps the rest.

Trade Panda Daytona for a Jumbo 16202?

You’re really not going to care about any ss Rolex once you get the ap. (Maybe one, tops- I don’t have any anymore) Why don’t you start there and see what you want to wind up with then.

MEH, I dont know I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but IMHO a Daytona is a much better looking (and way less of a scratch magnet) then that watch.......

oyster bracelets with PCLs scratch much more and much easier than AP's. my RO bracelet has one visible (although massive) scratch after 5 years and that's because i accidentally banged my iphone against a link, the rest of the bracelet is so mint you would think it was just bought. on the other hand, PCLs get destroyed by clothes

APs being scratch magnets is a myth from non owners

as for the look, yeah it's a love it or hate it look

You already have two of the best Rolex references the black 126500 Daytona, and Pepsi. I would spend more and replace the white 126500 with the Panda 116500, and add a 321, AP Jumbo, and a Hulk. Result a Killer collection for years to come.

FINAL COLLECTION OF BEATERS (before moving onto bigger boys)

- 126500ln Daytona Black, 126500ln Daytona White, 126710 BLRO Pepsi on Jubilee.
- I would leave this mostly as is and go grab the AP. If i were a larger person had larger wrists, i'd take the 15510st. If i were skinnier or smaller framed, i would go for the ultra thin. The shape is very similar on both.
- Lange 1815 Up/Down, kind of a different league entirely. Before i'm ready for a datograph, a patek perpetual.
- Overseas 4520, i would probably trade the black daytona in for it one day. Sports watch with alot of versatility and less hype than its counterparts.

Thanks. Fair idea since I could save $10-$15k. Why is it more interesting and are there any major differences in the quality of the finishing, bracelet quality or dial quality?

Main difference between 15202 and 16202 is the movement. The 15202 movement is pretty much the same as the original Jumbo. The new movement is bigger and has quick set date.

Case size, finishing, etc is the same between the two. The 16202 has a slightly darker shade of blue also but they both look the same to me.

IMO the 15202 caliber is much more beautiful, with one of the best looking oacillating mass across all calibers.

It’s way cheaper, and also has the original vision of monobloc case. The 16202 is a typical let’s reduce costs endeavor and extract more profits from the customers.

The 15202 is just beautiful (but I still prefer the 16202st) but for the love of god will you please stop the AP hate here on TRF as it’s just plain tiresome

Option 1 of the 3, but I’d probably skip the submariner.

Can remove if that is the preference.
might i suggest a 4th and 5th option:

4th option: trade the black daytona (i know you like it), but if you take the blue dial jumbo you will have all colored dials and adding the no date sub would potentially make up for the black dial loss.

5th option: the 16202 and 15202 are very similar looking, similar size, similar bracelet (the main diff is the movement). i would take the 15202 right now, its priced very well ive considered it myself, unless you want the 16202 50th. but if not, grab the 15202 asap, you can find it for about $50k and you keep your other watches. i think that is the best move right now
