Omega Gold Watches

Hello All,
Yesterday I had a chance to try some of the Omega gold watches. They are feel very well made and nice on the wrist. My question is are they worth buying it in AD on retail price or it’s better to get one on the grey market? How much cheaper I can get one of them when going grey?

Cheaper on the secondary by a long way. Like approaching 40%

You will just have to be patient. Not a ton of them out there, and the new Constellation will take a few more months (imho) before you see any listed - its too new.

Sedna Gold and ceramic for me, the perfect combination, I managed to get it LNIB significantly off retail.

That Aqua Terra is beautiful! I've always liked the Aqua Terra but never pulled the trigger on one. This gold version is really eye catching. May have to re-evaluate my next watch acquisition.

There are some pretty impressive discounts to be had at some AD's. Of course some models are boutique exclusive... and OB's are generally reluctant to offer discounts.

However when buying a grail, I often think about the famous quote by Ben Franklin which I think translates well to this subject:

“The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

― Benjamin Franklin

Any PM watch is losing on the secondary market. You should be ready to hold it forever. I own Tresor.

I have owned an Omega Speedmaster in YG with the green dial and bracelet. I bought it preowned from a Trusted Seller for about 65% of retail. When I traded it I lost about 15% off that figure. Cool watches and glad I had the ownership experience but will stick with Rolex going forward in PM.

Why did you decide to move on from it?

I wanted a PM Speedmaster for a while and after I got it I found it was not all that, to me. I still have an issue with the Omega bracelets and the fit and adjustability is just not as good as what I am use to with Rolex. Add in the cost and the fact I was not wearing, or going to wear it very much, and off it went. I have also moved on from my white dial 3861 and the black sapphire 3861 on a bracelet. Same reasons. I still have my 1861 and wear it almost exclusively on a strap and for now that is enough.

Makes total sense. Thanks for sharing. The bracelet also doesn’t speak to me and I think has kept me from getting a Speedy in general. Would likely wear one a strap like yourself.

I don't know which part of this shocks me more. That you were able to find this reference at 2/3 off retail ... or that you took any kind of a hit on that number trading it in. That's wild.

Absolutely stunning watch William. I'm surprised you moved it along. What didn't you like about it?

I just tried this model on this week and was blown away by it. The green dial really impresses in-person more than in photos IMO.

If you decide to go AD, you should still be able to get a discount. It won't be as much of a discount as going grey though

Edit ... I misread your quote. You said you paid 65% OF retail, not 65% OFF retail, which is more in line with prices I've been seeing on this reference pre-owned.

The Speedmaster lineup is great and while I appreciate the current updates, 3861/bracelet/clasp it still does not do much for me as soon as the honeymoon period wears. I purchased the white dial Speedmaster upon release and added a sapphire 3861 at the same time. Wore them, liked them, sold them and have not really missed them. I still own a 1861. The PM models from Omega are nice but they are not at the same level as Rolex. Fit, finish and actual wear. There is a reason why Rolex sells for more, other than hype. For me it is a better watch on so many levels. But being a watch collector/flipper/hobbyist there is a lot of room for many types of watches and I will buy a watch that I know will not stay a long time in the collection for the experience of ownership and wear. Same thing with the Seamaster 300 models. Cool watches but they do not do it for me the same way as my Rolex Divers or even my Seiko Divers for that matter. I was looking at the current Rolex Submariner with the green bezel and black dial and the Seamaster 300 with the green bezel and green dial. Almost 10k difference in the secondary market. Really. All of this to say no issues with the PM Speedmaster but in the end it was just not for me long term.

Bronze Gold Seamaster 300 here. I bought “used” (basically unworn but with stickers removed) from a very reputable dealer and saved almost 50% compared to retail. Added a custom ostrich strap.

I've seen this watch several times and it is a total steal on the secondary market. Beautiful watch at an extraordinary price pre-owned.
