Dreaming anyone?

Dreaming can, at times, be the most frustrating of experiences.
I’ve been dreaming quite a lot lately, and having some very exciting, occasionally frightening and sometimes downright weird nocturnal adventures. The odd thing I’ve found, is that, in the morning, the harder one tries to remember what was going on, the farther away the detail recedes, until you’re not sure of any of it at all. All you can remember, is that it was….‘interesting’.
Vague recollections of past colleagues, employee's, people you barely knew, mad, scary chase scenarios in fast cars that won’t slow when you’re stamping hard on the brake pedal, moments, that can have you wide awake in a flash and sweating like a Derby winner!

In my experience, there’s nothing more dull than other people’s dreams, it would be nice though if we could somehow press ‘play’ in our heads and relive those intriguing moments that are otherwise completely lost, come the morning light.

If you're looking for better dream recall later on, writing down a quick recap right after you wake up is your best bet.

my wife regularly dreams of using public bathrooms while barefoot. and being chased. she wishes she could not remember them, or just not dream. for a while she was having very bad anxiety dreams (amplified versions of being chased and public bathrooms). her Dr rx'ed her some blood pressure meds to help (typically her BP is pretty low, so this surprised me). now she's just back to using dirty bathrooms and being chased.

Ok so this part of your post made me laugh … (obviously not the rest of it which I truly wish your wife well).

Had to share, but when we were on our last flight to Italy, there was a women who shuffled past us to use the washroom. We noticed she had no shoes on … as in she had bare feet!!!

Now having been in that very washroom, I can tell you my shoes had a distinct “tacky grip” to the floor, the result of urine misses most likely from fellas who can’t aim. It was disgusting….

I just couldn’t believe this woman went in there with barefeet

You’re wife’s dream is my worst nightmare

Never get in line behind the old men in the restroom, or go barefoot where they've been.

Dreaming anyone?

My dreams are totally different now that I’m retired. When I was working, most of my dreams were either directly or metaphorically related to work.

Another recurring dream I often had was walking around a college campus and struggling to get to class on time. A lot of my friends say they often have that same dream. But since I retired, I don’t seem to have that anymore either.

Honestly, even since I retired, I feel like I have a lot more women in my dreams than ever before. I’m happily married of course, but I’m not kidding. Maybe because I have nothing stressing me out anymore.

I have some beers before bed and I’ve found it eliminates most of my dreams.

I have never been in what one might call tragic circumstances like being a soldier in combat and the stresses and perhaps moral dilemmas that are involved.

When I was 25 I was selling advertising for a newspaper and was in the process of starting my photography studio/business and was neglecting my job for a few months.

In sales meetings my numbers were way down and I had some guilt and stress about it. And for many years (40 some years), sometimes I'd wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat about that.

So bizarre that something like that stayed with me, because at the time, I don't remember it being that big of a deal. And I really didn't care because I was moving on into a different career.

So for something as mundane as that, I can't imagine what hits people in the middle of the night, who had the incredible stresses of combat or life and death stuff.

It is amazing what the subconscious brain keeps bringing forward.

Obviously we “see” people in our dreams who are strangers to us.

One thing I’ve wondered is whether we have actually seen those people in our lives before but we have no memory of them…think of all the people you’ve briefly dealt with in your lives whose faces you cannot recall…and their faces are stored in a deep recess of our brains, or if our brains generate totally new and original faces for our dreams. This is probably unknowable.

I have read that everyone in our dreams is some version of ourselves. A memory, emotion, or a sensation visualized as a person. Sometimes they are the antagonist, others the protaganist, but all are parts of you unrestrained by your conscious mind.

Last night, I dreamt that I ate a 10 pound marshmallow!

When I woke up, the pillow was gone!

Dreaming really can be a wild ride, can't it? Those moments of excitement and fear can feel so vivid while you're in them, but they slip away like sand through your fingers when you wake up.
