Help with Day-Date Authentication

My father's colleague wants to sell his 128239 DD36 Ombre dial.

Unfortunately he doesn't have the box or papers, claiming that it got lost/misplaced during his relocation from Liverpool to London.

Is anyone able to give any feedback regarding its authenticity as my father is currently considering it.

These are the only pictures we currently have, but more can be requested if it needed.

Also, can anyone confirm that this is a pre-2021 watch? I believe that Post 2021, the hallmark shows "AU750" rather than just "750"?

Proceed with extreme caution.

Just offer to do the transaction at an AD or a trusted jeweler who can authenticate the watch. This may only take 10mins and a few bucks for peace of mind.

Have the jeweler take the back off and look at the movement. Only way to tell for sure.

If they both trust each other, the watch should be submitted to London RSC for a service quote (at your Dad's expense).

They both will learn the cost of bringing it to perfect condition, and whether it is 100% authentic.

I agree with Paul here. RSC will be able to tell straight away. This one is a tough call on the basis of the images provided, although I will say there are some Red flags here... Maybe it's authentic, maybe not.

It is not a tough call. Pictures show a common superclone knock-off. Its a scam…

How and why would they do that with a solid gold watch. Easy to weigh the watch as stated and the feel of solid gold is what it is even to a novice.

The new superclone gold replicas are made of tungsten. Their weight is almost identical to the original (+ - 1 gram)

Weight will not help you anymore to properly identify a fake watch.

This watch however is a knock-off.

Any jeweler can cull out the superclones even if the weight is close...

Due to the picture quality, testing a DD is far easier since fakirs never use 18k gold.

That is a wrong and misleading information. First of all Geneve Day Date 18k Fakes have been a thing since the early 90ies. Case and bracelet come from Turkey and are in fact 18k gold. Depending on the jeweler’s knowledge about watches, he might give you a wrong info.

As for the current gen of fake tungsten Day Dates. They come with 18k gold plating. As long the jeweler doesn’t cut through the case or uses more expensive x-ray based equipment, he will probably tell you that the watch is authentic.

These “superclones” don’t have pm weight do they? Should be able to tell really easy that way I would think.
I can’t imagine his friend would sell him a fake

I love it when someone post and almost a month goes by with tons of comments and the OP never returns. Always feels like someone trying to pass off a fake and test the panel.
