Members mocking Rolex increase ?

Has anyone noticed what the dollar buys now compared to three years ago five years ago ,10 years ago ,20 years ago? Paper currency to has lost much value and continue to do so.

Almost everything I buy has gone up in price dramatically

Maybe its just inflation

The reverse is much worse (deflation )

Thoughts?

All fiat currencies, especially the dollar and the euro, will disappear at some point. Everything has gone up in price dramatically, as you say, because the central banks are printing money without any kind of control in order to pay the massive public debt.

We will return to the gold standard sooner or later because the debt of the vast majority of the developed countries are absolutely impossible to be paid and the paper money will end up being worthless. Till then, prices will rocket to the moon, Rolex and everything else.

The 2025 Rolex price increase of the PM watches will be “cheap” in the future…

I could be wrong but I believe inflation is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

I remember Ethyl!

And the year I graduated high school a pack of smokes was under a buck! Marlboro Reds and Camel Filters….the sulphur in the smoke of the match and the crackle of the first drag. I’m surprised I got old enough to reminisce, quite frankly.

That is the key here...

Most look at cost but ignore income. The paper currencies are an accounting tool representing the stability (or instability) of an economic model whereby people exchange their labor or production value for goods and services.

Year/Median Hourly Wage (USD) - Source

2004/$15.67 - SSA

2014/$20.67 - SSA

2019/$23.79 - SSA

2024/$35.61 - St. Louis Fed.

There are two sides of the coin. There is the professional & investor class. Their gains outpaced inflation.

But then there is the working class. Things are very different for them. And these people make up the majority.

No one is "mocking" the price increase. It was expected as everything is going up.

Don't really understand what you mean by 'mocking' though? I believe no one wants to pay more for the same product. Thats just stupid. However, if the watch has gone up in price but it is still something that I want then I am still going to buy it if the situation permits.

Two tacos at Jack in the Box are still 99 cents like they were when I was in college in the 90’s. I don’t what the hell all the complaining is about.

That’s because they are the SAME tacos you were chowing down when you were in college in the 90’s.

Winner

Speaking of JITB tacos, rumor has it that after 30 years and millions of dollars spent, scientists in both Lucerne and Brussels are on the precise of finding out exactly what Jack in the Box taco meat actually is.
