With the OF Daytona soon to be $38.1k before tax …
How are the PM preowned Speedmasters not the watch to buy ? Seriously. The Rose and white gold OF Daytonas will be $40 large in all but a few states. The yellow gold will be a few grand cheaper.
Meanwhile I sometimes see Daytona Pandas on rubber from trusted sellers in like new condition for $20-24k. The green dial on leather for a few grand less. Heck , Patrick @OC has a full gold (including bracelet) black dial in Sedna for 24k. FULL GOLD. The Stunning moonshine green dial with bracelet is just a few grand more. I’m no OF Daytona hater. I think they are sexy as hell and I appreciate the juxtaposition between PM and sport/activity wear. BUT 40k? No thanks , I have my tastes set on moonshine. Sorry all, I just don’t see a Daytona as being worth two of these : Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

To the buyer of the Daytona in precious metal price simply doesn't matter.

If I were to ever own a PM chronograph, it would be the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Speedmaster.

Lovely Speedmaster! I agree with you there and it'll be interesting to see instances where prospective buyers appreciate the Omega brand and designs enough to get an incredible watch for less.
I get the feeling for the most part it'll be a case of people want what they want but the precious metal increases on the other side might likely get more considering other (somewhat similar) options. I can't see things changing much for most people though despite this. |

I'm with ya on that. I prefer the moonshine panda speedy over any of the Daytonas. Daytona is all about the hype and the legibility is terrible. Speedmaster for me!

Good choice OP. I agree the precious metal Speedy secondhand is a great deal. Amazing watch and super comfy on that rubber strap.

I’ve seen and tried this on in person and it is indeed stunning. Bonus that the rotor matches the case, which is not the case with anything but Sedna cased Omega’s. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is like assuming people will get rid of their iPhones because a Samsung provides better value. The brand is deeply engrained. Deeeeeply.
Also that watch wears much chunkier. But that ain’t the reason most prefer Rolex.

I would consider a 5-digit Daytona on leather before the Omega.

I am die hard Omega fan and I own one gold Omega
But I’m not sure about gold sport watch, at least because of the weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

These are very tempting and probably the way I'll go when I get back into a PM watch, great value on the used market.

Agree, the PM speedies are great buy on the secondary, I just hope Omega realizes their retail prices are already quite high and doesn't follow suite with a price increase this year.

Did it again. I have no idea why it’s doing that. When I quote the comment it shows like it’s going to do it properly, but then when I actually post the comment all the emojis show up.

If you went to an Omega AD (not a boutique), I'm pretty sure you could negotiate a discount on the PM Speedmasters - and, funnily enough, you'll be able to walk out with it on the spot !

However I’ve seen lightly used models at around $20K out the door. That’s the equivalent of an AD offering you the watch for about $18.5 before tax. In a world where steel chronos cost in the teens and bi metal Chronos are in the 20’s, a pre owned 42mm gold Speedy is a helluva deal (assuming the watch speaks to you). |

Not gold but I do love the Platinum, meteorite subdial Speedy with the 321 movement. If I had to pick between it and just about any gold Rolex, I would pick that particular Speedy 9/10. But after having owned and regrettably sold a 116508, yellow gold/champagne dial Daytona, a full PM Daytona is really a special piece and still worth the MSRP IMHO.
