Any enthusiasts ?
My story is I used to road race, not competition but fun, had a Specialized Roubaix but sadly got a hernia and after my op I was very reluctant to get back on. Started a bit if a fitness regime so I've got myself a Specialized Sirrus X 5.0 after much investigating in the type of hybrid would suit me.

I still ride, though not nearly as much as I once did. It's about the only semi-strenuous exercise my knees will still allow, so I look forward to going when I do go. I've logged a lot of solos miles in my life, but these days I usually ride with a friend. For the most part I stick to the warm weather months and have all but given up riding on anything but a dedicated bike path. Fortunately, we have some nice ones here. My equipment wouldn't impress anyone, so I won't bother.
Hope you get back out there soon. FWIW, I had a hernia procedure a few months ago and after the first couple times I went out it was a non-factor.

I miss him, never a dull moment. Hope he is still alive & well, managing to keep the weight down & healthy. He had a really disciplined regime.

Been road riding seriously for the last 25 years. I've gone thru the self imposed challenges like riding 5K in a year, riding over 50MPH [52.2 to be exact] before I turned 50 yo, and conquering my most epic climb of 10,023ft up Mt Haleakala volcano in Maui. Now I'm just happy to ride [indoors & out] and get home safely.
My main ride for the last 21 years has been a LeMond Victoire Ti/ carbon fiber. It's been thru many overhauls in that time but still has some miles left. dP

Cycling .....
I ride about 5 miles a day. I have a Specialized Roll 3.0. Love it. I wanted a bike with thicker tires and less than 10 gears.
I just got it over the summer. I ride around my development. I don’t take it on busy roads. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Add me to the list of Specialized riders. Was an avid rider when young - a very long stint in NYC resulted in riding being more limited (though I did keep a bike and regularly rode the Central Park loop). Now my very young kids are the main hurdle - with my ERG substituting in for my primary cardio workout…
Would love to start riding more frequently again. Lots of great trails where I now live… maybe this thread will inspire me to get a new bike carrier. |

I was a continental pro MTB racer for a number of years. Now I ride mostly with my son. We don't ride as much as we could, as he also runs cross country and plays travel baseball. Not long before he was born, I'd done a bike tour from Narita to Hiroshima. Now, my son and I are planning to do that ride together.

used to ride a lot...one year did more miles on my bike than i put on my vehicle. bikes and riding were my life, and is how i met my wife.
15+yrs as a wrench, including some 1099 work for S brands, and some race work around the US. 4 or 5 yrs as part owner of/ wrench for a women's domestic elite team, including 1 Pro National Championship win as a complete dark horse. last year of running the team killed any desire i had to be near bikes, or wrenching. never came across anyone as ridiculous over-the-top or proud as BR. and i'm thankful for that. |

On the AIDS LifeCycle San Francisco to Los Angeles charity ride. Dad was an executive with Arnold, Schwinn & Co. (later Schwinn Bicycle Company) for most of his working career. I still ride a couple of times a week at 82. It's a great way to stay in shape.

My dad bought me a new orange krate in 68 when I turned 10. I still have it's got lets say patina but it's all there, even the pogostick still works. I have it displayed in rec room. They made them to last under you dad's lead.

![]() I used to have a big collection of Schwinns, including a 1972 fully chromed P-15 Paramount. After downsizing I only have two bikes now: a 1940 Paramount track bike brazed by Oscar Wastyn and restored by Waterford Precision Cycles (owned by Richard Schwinn and recently out of business as everybody was ready to retire), and a 2006 Waterford 61cm RS-22 brazed by Dave Wages with polished Reynolds 953 stainless steel tubing and Campagnolo Record group.
