a and e or demesey

Hi people,

This is my first post. I've never owned a rolex or had a desire for one until I bought a nice "junk" watch for 400.00 which I hate and will not wear. I've always worn Luminox or Swiss Army. But after buying the Rovindino, something sparked in me to look for what I really liked. A friend has a Rolex, so I started looking at them and realized I really liked the styling probably more than all the others in the price range of 5 to 8K. Anyway I also started looking on the internet and came across the sites, Demesey Fine watches and aandewatches.com. I found a used sport11 with papers showing buyers name, where he bought it, and when-2005-in Fla. for 3800. What do people here think about this? Yes I could buy a new one for 5K plus 350 tax. Anybody know about buying from these people? Thanks.........

My 2 cents

I live close to A&E...they're in San Francisco. They have a good reputation and have been featured in local news media when the story concerns high value watches and the proliferation of fakes and frauds. If you see something you like from them and you're comfortable with the price, then I would have no hesitation doing business with them. My own observation is they are priced a bit higher than some of the other internet pre owned vendors I would feel comfortable buying from, but maybe there's room to negotiate or perhaps just being comfortable with the seller is worth a couple of hundred dollars extra.

DeMesy has a web site that I love to look at when there's nothing else on the internet. I think their prices for many models are pretty fair and they have a very good selection. I placed a call to them when I was last in the market for a pre owned Rolex and they answered all of my questions in a knowledgable way. I didn't do the transaction because I found something more to my liking...but I wouldn't balk at doing business with them either.

When I've read all the postings on this forum and I have some slow time at work, I have a great time looking at the various Rolex sales sites on the internet. If you look at enough of them, patterns begin to emerge as to price, specialization and selection. Both vendors you've named are high on my list if you want to limit your search time and just make a decision and get the watch of your dreams on your wrist. But, if you're at the beginning stages of looking, and you've got the time, then a few key words in Google and you'll find yourself neck deep in places that want your Rolex business. That can feel overwhelming, but it's sure fun to window shop.

Welcome to TRF. I've heard of both places but haven't heard any feedback on either. I have a few friends that have bought through alanfurman.com and were very pleased with the prices and transaction

Thanks Oyster,

yeah, think I'm getting addicted to looking at watches. What's the deal? Anyway I'm gonna try and bargain with A&E. Demesy won't budge, but I think their deal is fair.

Although there are more Rolex's than Rolex buyers at the moment in the pre owned area of the more common models, no one is going to give away their watch, however, I think you're on the right track to wiggle a bit of a discount from the vendor. If you have the cash, then that might move the price a bit in your direction because of the merchant credit card fees, but then you lose the protection that a credit card transaction affords and there are also no miles, points or rebates that can mean something to you. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask.

Welcome to TRF, levi. Glad you found us.

Both places you mention are reputable, along with alanfurman that CJ mentioned.

All three are grey market dealers, so if you are concerned about the warranty, you might want to spend the money and go with an AD. If you've got a good local watch man who can repair Rolexes, you can probably feel safe with a grey dealer. It's very rare for anything to wrong with a genuine Rolex right out of the box, but you never know.

Good luck on the hunt and keep us posted on the search and results.

BTW, are you looking for any model in particular?
