The platinum AP Royal Oak Offshore ref. 26470PT

Has anyone on this forum ever owned this watch? If so, what is your experience with it? I'm considering trading up for it. Thanks for your thoughts.

Is it worth the premium? Looks like the others and maybe that is the point.

Do you ever find it getting too heavy? I have not seen it in person, but I'm hoping I can get away for a quick trip to take a look at it before I make the purchase.

It is pretty awesome. I do wonder if AP could retro-fit the quick release for it and sell you a PT butterfly clasp.

Yes. I asked for a dial swap and wasn’t possible. But the grey fume still lovely.

It is incredibly heavy and you simply must try it before buying. It is a real dead weight on the wrist - makes you walk round in circles!

I love it - but then I have a disturbing psychological need of very large heavy pt watches!

It's a beast—heavy, but with incredible presence and finishing...
Not the easiest daily wear, but if you love substantial pieces, it’s a statement!

Love it! When it came out, I wanted to trade up my PT44 for it, but it was just too much.

Yes. I have it in blue and responded to your message in the other thread you posted. I like mine a lot but I wouldn't reshape a collection to accommodate it as it's not a daily driver for me. That said, after i posted I saw you mentioned having a bunch of other watches so maybe the rationale is there. If you like heavy, there is no other and it's brushed platinum so it doesn't scream which I appreciate. A lot I like about this watch as polarizing as it seems to be amongst some. Regarding my overall experience, having had it for a couple of years, is really good but as Conkers pointed out you have to like the weight, which I do. My daily is a white gold sub which feels like a baby watch compared to this beast. it's certainly a special watch and the limited edition factor is cool. The fume dial is great and they are both surprisingly discreet imo consider the overall heft and size.

Thank you that helps! I like heavy platinum watches; I used to own a platinum Daytona. However, I haven't seen the Audemars Piguet in person yet. I'm traveling out of town to an area where I believe there is one for sale, so hopefully, I'll have the chance to see it and try it on.

If you had to choose between parting with the white gold Submariner or the Audemars Piguet, which one would you let go?

I think they're impossible to compare. I'm sure there's a car analogy in here in terms of a daily driver versus. In my case, I'd likely keep the AP because it's unique. I also don't always wear a watch so that would sway the decision.

The overall question of having a larger collection vs. fewer higher "quality" (whatever that means to a person) is something collectors deal with. For me, there's a sanity that comes from consolidation which wears off and is replaced with the idea of having a more robust collection in terms of numbers. Depends on the day of the week which one I prefer.

I'd say my life cycle for this watch was 1 - it's unique and the absurd weight is awesome 2 - it's still cool but it's something I have to feel like wearing so some demerits there and now 3 - I dig it for its strengths and flaws.

I have no idea what I would replace this with anyway. A couple of steel references? Nah. A rose gold AP? Maybe but they're more common, are priced at a premium and yg/rg become one of those I have to feel like wearing situations. A higher priced AP like a skeleton RG etc. Nothing particularly captivates me enough to make the move. 2-3 Rolex PM models? More watches is not something that equates to better at the moment.

Hope this helps. The only other thing I noted is that the price for the blue online seems inflated to me. I can't imagine you couldn't find one for 100-120k.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. I ended up trading for the watch. The picture makes it look larger than it is; it wasn't sized in this photo. However, I've never been a fan of the trend of wearing women's watches on men's wrists. I like man-size watches.

Hell yes. You got it! Sorry to just pick this up again. Looks great. Funny I've started wearing mine more and don't really notice the weight all that much this time around. How has it aged for you since picking it up?
